On one of those "hey, let's get out of town" weekends we stayed at the Desoto Motel. This was a last minute adventure so very little planning went into it. Our GPS led us to this little treasure,(it was the closests accomadations listed). Being frugal travelers we are not inclined to spend alot on accomadations but we also want to stay somewhere safe, clean & quiet. The Desoto is a tidy, family run place on Hwy 17. It is on the edge of town but still convienently located to everything. Each of the rooms we rented had full kitchens, nice to have for longer stays. Everything in the rooms worked fine & it was very clean & comfortable. We were so impressed we saved the address in our GPS for the next time we go.
When I made my reservation over the phone, i got a positive impression of the establishment. But now that I'm here, I'm very unhappy, because the Internet connection isn't working, and instead of taking reasonable steps to get it back up, the management is giving me the run-around by claiming that a repair person is on their way, when I found out from the motel's service provider that a service call hasn't even been called in. This has now been going on for the past 20 hours. It doesn't help that the person in the office (the owner's father?) doesn't speak more than a few words of English. I don't know if the management is dishonest or just incompetent, but either way it's a major problem for me because I'm here for a week to work, which can't be done without the Internet. Unfortunately, we paid in advance in cash, so little hope of getting our money back if we leave and go elsewhere. If you stay here, check out the Internet access from the room before you pay!
We stayed at this hotel for a couple days while visiting some friends. The rooms are nice and clean. Customer service was excellent. They also have wireless internet. The best part of all, it doesn't cost much.
We stayed at the DeSoto Motel prior to a recent canoe trip on the Peace River. They have several rooms in a new building; the rooms were plain, but comfortable and clean. It was great for the value. We would stay there again.
