Sherry Frontenac Oceanfront, Miami Beach

Was a cashier at the Sherry Frontenac in its heyday in the mid-1950s. She met many ballplayers and movie stars over the years she worked there. What a change from then to now.

The "Sherry" is not open to the public and is under contract with airlines around the world to provide lodging for their layover crews. This once was a grand resort during its prime in the 1950's. While much of the hotel still displays some of its classic design, the rooms are old and dirty with less than quality HVAC. Many of the airline crews enjoy this place due to its location and the fact that they provide a free breakfast and cheap booze. One can only dream of what this place was like during its golden era.

I don't know know why people say this place is great. Other than location with the beach behind it and a nice pool in the back, the place is a dump. Even when you first walk into the lobby there is a strong odor from the restaurant, like old grease or something. The rooms are dark with poor lighting, like they're trying to hide whatever dirt or rodents are running around. I know of some flight attendants who head off to the Walgreens down the street to buy some scented candles just so it will smell better. The air conditioning system is old. If I was to go to Miami on vacation I would surely want to spend my time at somewhere better. I guess cheap is better than comfort?

Yes, the lobby is huge, very well kept, clean. The rooms are spacious, very clean, serviced every day! Located right on the ocean with a great swimming pool, fitness center, WIFI access in the rooms, Great Continental breakfast, Pool tables, vending machines, laundry machines, beauty salon, acupuncture doctor's office, bar and much more! I would recommend it to corporate clients only because it is a private corporate hotel only! I will go back soon! P.S: I noticed that YAHOO wrote their fax # instead of their telephone #. The hotel was average, the location was nice. The front desk and customer service was terrible. When I called the make a reservation I was quote a very reasonable price. Upon arrival, after 12 hours of traveling, my reservation could not be found and my room rate more than doubled. I was told "you can go elsewhere if you do not want to pay the rate". After several attempts of resolving the rate issue, nothing has been done. A manager will not even talk to me about the issue. I handled the problem in a very professional matter. Since no one at the hotel has any interest in promoting quality customer service, I will take it upon myself to warn other travelers

The air conditioning does not work properly in the north tower. The rooms are dirty. Hotel needs a major renovation. Total dump.

Disgraceful. I can't believe this place in Miami is still in operation. My wife is with a major European airline which also stays here and is even more disgusted than I am! Cheap, filthy and worn down - that's only the carpets ...............

Carpet soiled and wrinkled in the rooms, halls, elevators. Many amenities broken in room. HVAC system (heating/air cond) could not be adjusted. Old mold/chlorine smell in room. Crumbling infrastructure. I love old bldgs and hotels, provided they are maintained and not allowed to simply degenerate into revenue sources for absent corporations. Needs a serious cash injection into the building to restore it to former grandeur.

The "Sherry" is a classic, Miami Beach Hotel from a by-gone era! When you enter, you are taken back in time when the airline industry was for the few and not the many! I have been staying here for many years on my off-time and refuse to go anywhere else! Only for Flight Crews is the best thing, for you don't have to deal with families, kids, singles, party-types, just simple R & R they way it was! We love the Sherry!

The location, the pool, the nice staff, free parking and complemetary breakfast should be enough but add to that free internet and one of the most beautifull beaches in the world just infront makes it FANTASTIC!!
