Things have changed!
By Rob, 4/26/09
We enjoyed our stay at the Hana Hale Inn. We felt it was clean, well stocked, beautiful grounds, and the fresh fruit was great. We stayed in the Tree House Cottage. It had a beautiful view of the pond, a peek of the ocean, and was hidden in the trees. We never saw the owners, but didn't need to. We took care of everything online. They left a key for us on the bulletin board. They were finishing some remodeling on another cottage. This is not a luxury hotel, but if that is what you like there is one down the street that cost $400.00 and up.

If you don't like rats-- this isn't the place for you..
By Ramen Freak, 6/7/05
My husband and I stayed in the "Royal Bamboo Suite" for $250 a night. The photos of the suite online are very nice, and upon arrival the suite seemed fine-- but a few hours into our stay some rather unappealing features came to our attention. Since the house was built in the 70's it was in need of some maintenance (there were huge gaps between the threshold and the screen doors from 1 to 4 inches throughout the rooms-- this allowed for all sorts of things to get into the room, mainly, mosquitoes). The sofas were a little icky-feeling, they needed some cleaning and the front door was broken. Hana is known for having a lot of mosquitoes, but a guest should be able to close the screen doors and shut the mosquitoes out. There were a couple of dusty ceiling fans and two box/floor fans, but they were so dusty and dirty that both me and my husband suffered severe sneezing and sinus attacks when they were turned on. Also, if you like to have some privacy in the bedroom, this is not the place for you. Even though the bedroom faces a pond, there is a public road which cars drive on at all hours, at night, headlamps from these cars would shine directly into our bedroom and viola-- instant spotlight-- thanks to the fact that there were NO CURTAINS in the bedroom facing the beach access road. Lastly, the rats. My husband woke me up in the middle of the night, because he heard someone in the kitchen. We got up and thought that we heard some mice behind the stove (ahh that would explain the droppings on top of the refrigerator). When we told the owner about our "visitors", he said, "you folks must be from the 'city', huh?" Well, we are from a city, a city with a lot of rats, but we don't want to sleep with them! For $250 a night, I don't think ANYONE wants to share their room with mosquitoes and rats. In my opinion, this was the furthest thing from a "royal suite" that I've ever seen.
