Chelsea Star Hotel, New York

PLEASE stay AWAY from this hotel : 1- i stayed iin for 5 nights ,they changed my room 3 times!!2 of them were with out my permssion. 2- i just came back from the doc with diagnosis of SCABIES,i was going to stay there in my next visit during new year and first week of jan ,i canceled my reservation . although it s cheap place to stay in new york city but i paid the difference (80$ doc visit+65$ for SCABIES medication and antihistamine for severe itching all over my body coz i have not slept for 2 days!!! take an advice from and save your money ,keep looking for somewhere else to stay.

the staff was so excellent, they had great recommendations for sightseeing, helped my elderly mother procure a space to see and gave directions to the 911 memorial, moved us to another room when it was clear that two of our party could not easily handle the stairs, and were most pleasant in every way possible. This hotel is clean, accomodiating, and in an intersting bustling part of town. HIghly recommended for the traveler that wants a decent sized, clean room and is willing to give up room service and an in house spa for a good, affordable price.

It was a great hotel, I stayed there a few nights. I paid for most of it with a free gift card that I got from ESPN. I think they're still giving them out at nflgiftcards.info, hurry before they run out!

Highly recommend this for an affordable and safe place to stay.The office staff was wonderful - Miguel and everyone went out of their way to make us comfortable. The beds were great and always clean when we returned from a hard day of touristing. We would definitely stay here again. Convenient to local cafe's, a great bakery, and fruit stand. Chelsea Star dumped us on the street at midnight! We had to find another place to sleep! Read below for the story. Pros of the Chelsea Star: Relatively Clean Location Cons of the Chelsea Star: Noisy all night from the traffic of a very busy 8th Ave. - and low quality windows/insulation of the room They messed up our reservation, dumped us on the street, and didn't take any responsibility for their mistake, they didn't even offer an apology. Our experience: Our original reservation was for a 4 night stay for 8 people occupying an entire 8 person dorm room. We were able to secure very good cheap tickets to the broadway show “Wicked” the day after our original checkout date. We called and changed the reservation to a 5 night stay. We made a follow up call about a month later to confirm that the reservation had indeed been extended to include that 5th night. Both times we called, to change the reservation and then to confirm the reservation change, we were assured that everything was fine and that the 5th night (dates were reiterated) was reserved. When the first part of our group arrived in Manhattan and tried to check in they were not allowed to because they were too early (even though we had asked the Chelsea Star in advance that it be alright for us to come that early). The did let us leave our bags behind the check-in desk but no paperwork or payment was processed. When the second part of our group arrived (different flight) and checked in Chelsea Star would not let us do so unless we paid for the entire group. So a member of this smaller group who was not the head of our group and subsequently did not make the reservation paid with a credit card. Chelsea Star did not collect any contact information nor did they provide us any paperwork outlining reservation details or such. Being jet-lagged and tired and overwhelmed by the busyness of the city and assuming we were dealing with a responsible company we did not verify that what we had there is what we actually had reserved (it would have been wise for us to verify that Chelsea Star had not messed up our reservation). We enjoyed our vacation until on the 5th night we returned to Chelsea Star at approximately 11:30 PM and we found all of our belongings in plastic bags mixed together and piled on top of each other in a storage room. The Chelsea Star front desk staff member informed us that our room was now occupied by other people and we needed to get out. We were kicked out on the street with our belongings in garbage bags at almost midnight to find somewhere to sleep. After the vacation (and as we were getting kicked out) when we tried to talk to the Chelsea Star staff and manager we got a very aggressive and derogatory response from them that basically told us that they had done nothing wrong, we were at fault, and they frankly didn't care – they had our money and good riddance; go find somewhere else to sleep. Our recommendation is to find another place to stay that care about their guests and not just about their money, that have the means to take care of emergencies, that stand up and face their mistakes, that don't take the attitude in the end of good riddance get out of our hotel.

I loved it because the sevice was great!I LOVED IT! IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER AND A BIT FANCEYER.I LOVED IT I LOVED IT REPEAT I LOVED IT...

Everthing was clean and tidy. Service was great. Window seemd to be made of paper, with a strong draft and clear sound from the outside.

You will really feel like a New Yorker,in this great location minutes walk to Empire State Building, Chelsea gallaries, great restaurants. The building is odd from the outside but once you are in, its great. don't take your high heels, take good walking shoes. Great room(we stayed in a one bedroom suite.) See if you can request a room in the back b/c of street noise. International staff, great restaurants in the area, and shopping a Macy's, cool little guarden in the back. Madison Square Garden one block away and you can pray with the animals at St. Francis shrine blocks away. Short subway to China Town, walk to little Korea for unbelievable BBQ.

my friend and i stayed there back in august an we had a blast! the staff was nice an it was quiet not too loud an close to everything! would definately stay there again

i normally take pictures of the hotels where I stay, but for this one, i did not.. for the sole reason that i want to forget about it!!! after the cab driver stopped, i was looking very eagerly where the hotel is since he said that this is it. to my surprise, the main entrance was a small door.. literally, just the door!!! you have to ring the bell so it will open )if you don't have your hotel key yet) then after opening the door, there is the stairs welcoming you!!! too bad for those who have back problems because they don't have any elevators or bell boys to help you out! okay so after reaching the top of the stairs, you have to go to the "lobby" which is a small room and you will have to wait for the receptionist who doesn't mind you at all... the receptionists are the ones answering the phone, just in case you mistake a guest as one because they don't wear uniforms. ok, after the long wait, they'll be asking for your name, etc, and check-in time is 3pm. the location is about 3 blocks away from a subway station but it is located in a bad neighborhood. anyway, let's talk about the rooms... we got a private suite with private bath.. thankfully! the room was smelly..not too nice indeed! no cabinets, just hangers and a rack, the chair was broken, the pillows flat. the carpet is soooooooo dirty. you can also hear the conversations of the guests from the other room very very clearly.. especially when they're doing what they're supposed to be doing during a honeymoon... i think you get the picture. so it's really hard to sleep at night. but then, to my surprise, the bathroom is clean. BUT, the shower sometimes leaks every hour or so. we paid 188.12 dollars for the room, no breakfast, no cabinets, no bell boys, no elevators, no safety deposit boxes (it is available at the counter for 5 dollars each), bad neighborhood, very dirty carpet, very noisy, but there's free WIFI access! hey! maybe that's all that's great about it :p i would definitely NOt come back here... i'd rather pay a few more bucks and get a better room, in a better place :
