Excellent Value/Location Very Clean
By Suzanne, 01/02/09
I am a picky traveler, do not think the photos here do justice to the cottage I stayed in, which was immaculate, newly and attactively reburbished and very quiet. The location within blocks from the gorgeous Monterey Coast, a beautiful municipal golf course, the 17-mile drive through Pebble Beach and over to Carmel, and within a short walk of quaint and historic downtown Pacific Grove with lots of ammenities and good restaurants. You are also close to the Monterey Aquarium, Cannery Row, the Del Monte Shopping Center, etc. And there is a nice Continental Breakfast and WiFi in the rooms. I really enjoyed it....and it is an excellent bargain for long winter stays for snowbirds or longterm business travelers, people relocating into the area as I am. I had a great time and would definitely recommend it.

This is far from the romantic cottage I expected!
By Alexa, 10/29/08
What a joke. The bed was covered in an old ratty comforter and underneath that was a ratty old thin blanket. The bed was very uncomfortable to say the least. The room smelled of soggy cornflakes and chlorine. The bathroom was very old and had only a shower (no tub) with a very low placed shower head. The in room coffee tasted old and stale. We stayed in the cottage and everytime someone would close their car door in the parking lot it would shake the headboard of the bed (along with our heads!) We woke the next morning to birds flocking around and knocked over trash can right in front of our door. What a joke this place is. To me it was almost as bad as if I were staying in a ran down trailer park. Not to mention the continental breakfast was held in the tiny office and consisted of muffins cut in half. PLEASE, find somewhere else to stay. I also was shocked to find a seperate charge for tax on my checking account a week later. WEIRD LITTLE PLACE!

would not stay again nor recommend
By mom, 09/04/08
The smell was a cross between insecticide and incense. It permeated the bedding, the towels and the air. The water pressure was not, shower very worn out and dirty. There was sand on the floor near the entrance. The floor was very cold, making the room very uninviting. We arrived late and were tired, hoping it would appear better in the morning. The cost for the cottage mid-week was out of line for the condition and overall experience

Great value & location
By P, 04/26/08
My cousin & I along with her small dog stayed at the Lovely Sea Breeze Inn 4/9-11/08. Motel 6 takes pets but the locations on the Monterey Peninsula are quite undesireable. For a few dollars more we got a lovely location near the ocean a much nicer room & decor, extensive cable, continental breakfast, pool, hot tub, grassy area with picnic table. There was even a large dog pillow with doggie bones on top. The door knob on our room was loose so I went to the office and they repaired it immediately. Peg, Pasadena, Ca.

Great value for a romantic getaway.
By RAINMAN, 11/12/07
This place was quaint. I believe it is officially classified as a two-star, and while the place is older and not as fancy as other places you might stay at, it is taken care of as well as it can be. The good: the location is amazing. At the tip of Pacific Grove, you can get to the old lighthouse, to Cannery Row, and to 17-mile drive very quickly. Its far enough away to not get a lot of traffic. There's a cozy outdoor fire pit near the lobby. The unit we stayed in was a stand-alone cottage, so privacy was better than you would get at your normal inn or B&B. The not-so-good: like I said, it is an older place, so there's a mustiness (easily corrected by letting the fresh air in through the windows when you check in), the bathroom and plumbing were just average (no problems with hot water as mentioned in other reviews), and the beds are a little soft for my taste. Overall: Great value, very romantic. Would definitely return.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/04/07
very nice location.the room was very big ,enough for four of us (2kids and 2 adults).the bathroom was old but very clean.I was expected a microwave and a fridge in the room but nothing. The breakfast was good ,not too much choice.the walls was so thin that we could hear the neighbors talking .We have had the room in sale but for me it doesn't worth the real price($119)

don't forget -- there are ROOM TAXES....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/07
I was surprised that the price was so high $172 initially, then I pointed out that it was more than in the middle of July, the host graciously lowered it to $149.xx. (note to self: -- I didn't go through Expedia...)and it was explained that that was due to the Jazz Festival in Monterey. Albeit, most other places I had checked with were also as high, "due to the Jazz Festival...".. and booked. I had enjoyed my stay before and was tired. It is a 'cozy' place. But, then I got home and found out about the 'room taxes' when I called to find out about the surprise additional $15 fee. Which of course, nothing could be done about it, per the receptionist. So be it. From now on: I get my room via Expedia and may as well go to a Motel 6 for the accommodations, which vary little. Does paying more make the bed more comfortable? Not usually. I'm tired of getting ripped off because it is 'what the market will bear..'

Do not recommend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/18/07
The price was good for the area, but too much for the quality of the inn. The walls are paper thin and you could hear what was going on the in next room (not good when you have young children with you). There were multiple maintenance and cleaning issues as well (shower door latch broken, mold and mildew in shower and ceiling, towel bar pulling out of wall, burned out light bulbs, grout and caulking nasty, inconsistent water temperature in shower -- would go from freezing to scalding in an instant -- very painful, especially when trying to bathe young children). Also, there were no washcloths available, even upon request; and although there were 4 people in our family, they never supplied enough towels daily (only enough for 2 people even though we requested more). If we could have found another available place, we would have left immediately. The location was good.

Soooo Cute...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/22/07
I have to admit after reading some of the reviews here I was a little apprehensive, but boy were we (my boyfriend and I) pleasantly surprised. We stayed in one of the cottages (#115) and we were not disappointed one bit. It is a two star hotel, and in my opinion it is the high-end of that rating. So, if you are looking for a nice cozy place, I totally recommend. It is close to the Aquarium, Cannery Row, the Wharf, and 17-mile drive, if that is what you are looking for.

Rebuilt? Not Our Room!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/18/07
I'll start with the pluses: Great location around the corner from 17 mile drive & a walk, albeit long, into the cute town of Pacific Grove. Although our unit was close to the rode, we didn't hear much vehicle noise. Maid service was quick & efficient but the tiny towels had a strong smell of bleach. Minuses: Not much of a greeting upon arrival. After checking our room (units across the street)that had a queen bed that pretty much filled the small room, I went back to see if there were any rooms available in the newly renovated section (same side of street as office) but manager said we WERE in the renovated section! I believe the bathrooms are an indicator of the general upkeep of a hotel & this one was TIRED! If you look in the dictionary under "deferred maintenance" there's a picture of this unit (#402) The shower head flow was so weak that you had to run around under it to get wet! The glass shower door was extremely flimsy & had to be the cheapest the owner could find. The grout was black with mildew. The sink was pulled away from the wall. The room was so small they could not fit a chest of drawers so we stacked our clothes on the closet shelf & the one chair. The tiny frig was on the floor - I won't go on as it's too depressing as I paid what averaged to $152 a night! On June 16 & 17 yes but this place wasn't worth a penny over the $84 per night advertised!!
