Comfort Suites Southport, Southport

Cleanest & newest pet friendly motel/hotel I've ever stayed at. Nice size, King bed. Older tv was hard to hear from the bed, you had to turn it up high, but could hear it better across the room and in the bathroom. I always find the breakfast rooms are way too small for the amount of guests, even though this is one of the smallest chain hotels I've ever been to. We had to go out to the pool to eat so we ate out the 2nd morning for breakfast. Ran out of towels & was worried since the dog was in the room with the DND sign and other motel maids wont step foot in the room with a dog, crated or not, but they actually left a bag of 6 handtowels and 6 washclothes and shampoo at the door. No large towels were left but we made due. We didnt even have to go to the desk to check in since they held my debit card early. No calls or strange knocks at the door, we were not disturbed and only heard a couple of barks though there were at least 2 larger dogs there. FYI it is 3 miles from the waterfront so I didnt know it would be so hard to find restaurants and stores open on the weekend and after 7 pm.

ive been in this hotel for 3 months while im in town for work awsome place very friendly people work here. they should be a 5 star rating. excellent service.

Liked location, breakfast, attitude of employees. Disliked having my reservation changed without being notified until I arrived; I felt my needs, which had been discussed during making the reservation, were being completely disregarded; lengthy time to check in/check out.

Good things: The bed and pillows were heavenly soft, everything was clean and new looking. Nice, interesting building, "glass elevator," quiet location, nice room set up, nice housekeeping staff. Free USA Today newspaper. Delicious breakfast--a variety of jimmy dean sausage biscuits, waffles, yogurts, bagels, fruits, cereals, instant oatmeals, pastries, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and juice. Complaints: --the pool was way over-chlorinated. --had to wait 40 minutes to check in because the rooms were late in being inspected. --a very intimidating woman stood two feet away making sure my 11 year old very capable child didn't touch the waffle maker---she said "we had a little girl burned a few weeks ago" as her excuse. She insisted that only people over 16 could touch the waffle maker. It was very disappointing...before the trip my kids had specifically said "make sure the hotel you get has a waffle maker." My kids have used waffle makers in hotels for years with no incidents at all. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone without kids. If you have kids, make sure the the pool and waffle maker problems are fixed if those things are important to you.
