A GOOD CHOICE
By Anne, 4/30/12
This is our third time at Queen Kapiolani, 2000, 2010, and March 2012. We have seen improvements each time we've been. Our rooms (there were 3 rooms in our party) had all been recently redecorated, were comfortable, and clean. We love being at the end of the Waikiki hotel strand next to the zoo. We find it convenient whether by walking, or by taking a car to another area. The morning buffet was new to us, and very good. We definitely will stay here again. Anne and Ron, Wilmington, NC

A wonderful place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/25/11
Our family got two rooms which was beautifully remodeled and new HDTV . The rooms are large compared to other Waikiki beach hotels and clean , air condition working well ,lanai has a fantastic view of diamond head and partial view of the ocean .Just a few steps from the beautiful Waikiki Beach, great location. The front desk was courteous and helpful .Staff was excellent and friendly especially the housekeeping that made sure that our room is in A1 condition. I will highly recommend this hotel and we're happy we stayed in this hotel. We will be back .

Some things do change!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/28/10
Just read some of the reviews on this hotel had to respond...I'm actually sitting in my room on the 17th floor...this hotel is not 4 or 5 star but it is good value for money...I'm in Honolulu on business and the stay from Sunday night through Friday morning is costing $520.oo (not including tax) staff are friendly, rooms are clean - no they won't change sheets everyday...but they just did today, Wednesday...I have a king size bed and the room is cleaned everyday...NO bedbugs...that writer had to be from New York! Showers are a little outdated but adequate...I have a 42" flat screen in my room...it's about a block and a half from Waikiki beach and all of the associated action...I travel a lot and this is not that bad...restaurant only does breakfast...but I suspect everyone will be out for lunch and dinner...they are updating the facilities...as I said not 5 star or even 4 star but I'd give it 3 stars...you want 4 or 5 stars they have them here but you'll pay for them! At $104.00/night (breakfast not included) I'd suggest you give this place a try...I'd have no problem coming back with my wife... Cheesehead

A Mixed Review
By SKT, 7/2/09
Well just visited Honolulu this past weekend (6/26-6/29) and came away with a conclusion regarding this hotel with mixed results. For the pros, they have an affordable nightly rate and the location is definitely ideal (i.e. really close to Waikiki beach). However, the cons may stand out more. For instance, this hotel does not change sheets daily at all. Evidence for this includes not seeing any of the maids around with new bed sheets on those carts they usually stroll around with while cleaning. And also, we performed a test by marking our sheets only to find out later that day that the sheets were indeed the same ones. The only thing it seems they actually change is the towels. As for cleaning the room/bathroom, well it doesn't appear like they did much as well. When we actually requested new sheets and confronted them about it, they were so rude enough to not even actually change the sheets themselves, but lay it out the bed for us to do it!! I never had this bad of a hotel service before. So if you're expecting a good, clean place to stay, this is probably not the place to stay at. However, if you don't really care about the hygiene level taking place here and rather love the location and affordable rate, then this may be for you. Yet, I would strongly try to avoid this place at all cost due to poor service and terrible cleanliness. I also came away with many "red spots" on my leg that was probably contributed from the room. With the room being so dirty (i.e. carpet stains, not cleaning bed sheets), I think the room combine with possible outdoor activities (i.e. luau) made my skin really terrible. So to conclude, if you have sensitive skin, the hotel's hygiene level will not bode well for you. Unless you're the type that do not really care about where you stay at and based on location only, this is a good place due to its proximal to the beach and other locations. However, with poor service and bad cleanliness, I rec you avoid this place!

Go back if you are on a budget!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/4/09
It could be a fabulous hotel if it was spruced up, patched up and painted. Otherwise, it is comfortable, clean, rooms are spaceous and most staff is friendly. Very convenient to all places of interest - the beach, restaurants, and transportation if you don't have a car.

Bed Bugs!!!!!!
By JBinAZ, 2/13/09
Infested with bed bugs. I had bug bites all over my body. The rooms have coffee makers but coffee that is usually complimentary at other hotels, costs 2 dollars per packet at this hotel. Never again!!

You Get What You Pay For
By knwitall, 1/23/09
Inexpensive and minimal, outdated but clean. It's a good choice if you want a good location for going to Waikiki---it's across the street from the beach and lots of shops, restaurants, etc. We got a beach view room, definitely worth a little extra because the room wasn't splendid but the view was. Know that if you stay in Waikiki, people are partying in town all night so it's really loud. Ask for the room on the highest floor possible for a better view and less street noise. If you like to go to bed early and want peace and quiet don't stay in Waikiki. But if you want to go out walking, to restaurants and have some drinks then it'll be okay. We barely spent any time in our room so this was a good affordable option for us. Not luxury though. One thing that was really good was a very inexpensive restaurant under the lobby that opens early in the morning. Simple stuff like eggs, fruit, etc. But very convenient plus a friendly staff. The pool here did not look very good because you can see power lines and stuff, but kids wouldn't know the difference.

Great price, across street from beach.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/11/09
Price allows for longer stay. Teens loved being right by the beach and not worrying about being sandy from the beach. Rooms are not elegant but not dirty. Showers were clean but old! Beach sand everywhere but your on the beach and in Hawaii! Skipped the restaurant and walked down the street to ihop or denneys! Had a great time, no bugs, nothing gross just older. Staff cleaned rooms daily! Would go again with kids.

Great Value, Great People, Great Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/24/08
I was traveling alone for my son's wedding so was not concerned with amenities, only a place to sleep at a resonable price. What a wonderful surprise to find such a gracious and hospitable establishment as the "Queen". My room was large and comfortable and the service could not have been better. I will most assuradly stay there again and will recommend it to my friends.
