Honeymoon ruined
By ,
We had booked one of their most expensive room, only to find that it was double booked and were given another room when we arrived .. without any explanation until we confronted the caretaker. The owners were not contactable and could not sort out our dispute on the day. Service was very poor. Lakeview rooms actually share balconies and it wasn't nice seeing a half naked tourist sunbaking from another room. As another reviewer mentioned, you have to go to the house lounge to make tea and coffee, which was hidden away in the cupboard. We left very angry and refused to stay there. We're still waiting to see if we can get a refund for them double booking our room.

VERY disapointed
By ,
For the amount of money ($395 one night!) I expected 5 Star room. However, view was overlooking a motel, TV was small with only 2 poor reception channels, no in room tea/coffee facilites, had to use 'trademan's entrance', landlady virtually begged that we did not invite friends (did she think they were thugs??), there was no info on how to use the WiFi in the guest info book, room was small, decor was aimed at over 60's (no offense!) and shared balcony. If I want communal type accomadation I'd stay in a hostel. I really expected 5+ star luxury (we had just that in other places for half the price), and was nearly in tears at having wasted the money. On the upside, large bed, ok spa bath, nice brekkie (cooked by the husband) though not much choice and CANNED fruit?

Shame about owner's attitude to guests
By ,
Although this was a lovely lodge to stay, the accommodation & location were great however our stay was spoilt by the owner's domineering attitude to her guests - we wondered why she was in the B & B business, it was clear she had a lovely lodge and was very proud of it but it seemed she didn't really want people to stay. She was quite rude to some guests who asked for a teapot almost shouting at them that she had already told them where the hot water was for tea and was really reluctant to supply them with a teapot, she also totally ignored their request to sit by the window barking at them to sit where a table had been laid. It was also odd to be instructed (rather than requested) that we weren't allowed to use the main entrance after we had checked in but use a side door instead (a bit like being told to use a tradepersons entrance). When being shown around it felt like we were being ordered to do things her way rather than being advised where things were and how they worked. We also bumped into some other guests at another venue who had also stayed there and they commented "it was clear who wore the trousers in that household". This was the only luxury lodge that we stayed in, in New Zealand where the owner made us feel uncomfortable and un-welcome, the other lodges went out of their way to accommodate requests and were really friendly and helpful to their guests. I would have given this lodge a 5* rating had it not been for the owner's attitude.
