Metro Hotel & Cafe, Petaluma

My wife and I stayed at the Metro last weekend, and I cannot say, 'stay away' loud enough. The people at the front desk were easily two of the rudest individuals we have ever met. Their attitudes were rediculous and almost to the point where We should be considered grateful for being allowed to stay in their poor excuse for a motel which is really all it was, not an 'Inn' as is advertised. If their ignorance wasn't bad enough, the room certainly was. The ac did not work, and when we asked to move into another room due to the stiffling conditions we were told that we would need to pay an upgrade rate of an extra $30/night. The hot water didn't work in the shower and there were three inch cockroaches on the countertop. What was meant to have been a nice, enjoyable three night trip away for our honeymoon turned into a disaster. In fact we left after the first night. Do yourself a favour and sleep in the car.

Everything about this inn was unique and full of character. No McHotel here! The staff was terrific; the rooms were amazing and comfy; the coffee is terrific (and organic). It is profound when the one thing you can think to mention on your comment card is, "How about some bottled water in the room?" It's even more profound when the owner responds by whizzing out to your departing car with a bottle of Metro Hotel brand water!! We will make this our top recommendation to all family and friends!

If you don't look at the street signs outside you would swear you were in a bed and breakfast in Paris. The French decor is to die for and the grounds are calming and manicured. Our room was clean and comfortable and the aroma of fresh coffee floats up the stairs and wakes you pleasantly in the morning. The location is close to tasty restaurants from Pizza to Garlic Incrusted Sea Bass and a must for me, Starbucks a few blocks away. I would stay here again. The prices were very affordable. Great find in the Petaluma, Novato area!

Really felt like you were in Europe. If you are expecting a generic hotel, then do not go here. Very charming vintage economical inn. Comfortable beds, and very near to downtown.

I paid an amazing amount of money for practically nothing. I never did see any staff. It was like a ghost hotel without the charm. Very sparse conditions.

The innkeepers were warm and welcoming and the colors and art in my room and common areas were vibrant, sensual, and inspiring. It is truly a little taste of Europe.

As a world traveller I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon a little slice of European Elegance in Petaluma. The rooms are a welcome 180 degree change from the horrible, stuffy, usually dirty standard rooms that populate the American landscape like a scourge. Clean, clever, and within easy and pleasant walking distance to all of Petaluma's many attractions. This is in the true (and to me much preferred) style of an European Pensione, NOT a typical American B & B by a longshot. Expect to have your needs met if possible, do not expect (or need I hope!) a personal babysitter. These Innkeepers (thank GOD!) treat all guests as adults. I recommend this place to anyone I know who might either be coming to Petaluma or having family to visit. I look forward to seeing this place grow and prosper! This place was airy and had a light feel to it aesthetically. However this potentially pleasant feeling was rather mercilessly spiked into the ground by the superficially nice but truly horrible attitudes of the owners. I have never been treated so poorly in my life, especially by someone ostensibly in the 'hospitality' industry. I can't recommend that you STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE enough. Peace be with you and yours.

TOTAL waste of money. The owners were very rude, and there was non-existent customer service. They treated us like they were doing us a favor for letting us stay in their hotel. In the morning the only thing they offer is self-serve coffee and that is after 7.30. If you want coffee earlier you should make it yourself! The rooms were tiny, with no TV, no phone, and no soap!! They decorated the place with the cheapest, ready to collapse furniture. The bathroom was a joke... Everything collapsed in there. The toilet flooded, the towel holder came off the wall, not to mention the water pressure... If someone in Petaluma turned on a faucet, you were destined to finish your shower either freezing cold or burning hot!! Total joke! The only ones who really enjoyed our stay there, was the family of ants that were coming from inside the walls trying to get in our toothpaste...
