We chose this hotel for a two night stay while visiting our daughter for ECU's family weekend. The hotel had more reasonable rates than others in the area for this particular weekend and there was no two night minimum reservation. It was in a decent location and looked fair from the outside. Upon entering the lobby there was an obvious cigarette odor in the air that worsened as we proceeded to our room on the second floor. There were no elevators, so we had to carry our belongings up a flight of stairs while trying to hold our breath because the air was so foul in the stairwell. There was an even thicker smell of smoke in the hallway and by now it was obvious that even though we requested a nonsmoking room in a nonsmoking part of the building, we were going to have to breathe cigarette smoke on the way to and from our room. If that wasn't enough, when we turned down the beds one of them had stains on the sheets and the other had a black dirt on the inside of the comforter. We would have walked out then and there, but it was family weekend and all other hotels in the area were already completely booked. We made a call downstairs and were lucky enough to catch the girl at the front desk (they leave at 10pm). She sent the manager who denied smelling smoke even though the smell in the hallway was nearly choking us. We were able to get a change of bedding and were offered a different room on the first floor for the following night where we might not smell the smoke. Although the smell in the hallway was better on the first floor, the inside of the room reeked of smoke worse than the original room and the plug in the bathtub was hanging out of the drain hole. The rugs had spotty stains and the furniture was old and run down looking. We should have paid the extra money and stayed in a hotel with fresh air and clean bedding. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone!
