As Amy and I were just zipping up our last of five bags, we got a text message from Dana -- their initial flight on American had been cancelled the night before (thunderstorms or some such) and the airline had rerouted them through Dallas (that is, from Detroit to Dallas to La Guardia) with an arrival of 9:50 p.m., ten minutes before our Aerlingus flight left JFK. After some invective filled texts, and some ticket counter litigation, they managed to get on a flight direct to Newark, arriving at 5ish, plenty of time to make the several-legged bus transfer to JFK.
