We live in Atlanta so we flew into Denver and rented a car for a couple of reasons: first there are no big airports around the Black Hills, including Rapid City, so you have to go to a large city airport anyway and then change planes to continue on to a nearby city and that's just not for us. But the bigger reason is that we go on these trips to see the USA, the lay of the land, the country and countryside and the landscape. Day 1 We start this vacation from our home in Gruver, Ia. We have three small children Charles (8) Brooklyn (2) and Alyssa (6months). We tried to make this trip economical and packed 2 coolers, one with drinks and the other with food for picnics. As it took us some time to organize the van and get 3 small kids situated we left much later than expected and took off for our vacation at 12:00 pm. I must laugh at myself as I had thrown a pizza in the oven and fed it to the kids on paper plates in the car so we could get going.
