We used kayak.com to find the best flights from the New York City metro area to Denver. We spent $267 each for a direct non-stop flight from Newark airport to Denver airport on Continental. At Denver airport we picked up our ski-season weekly special SUV from Thrifty Rent-a-car . Most car rental places had these weekly specials for around $251 for a week. Including taxes and insurance it came out to be around $300 for the week. We stayed in Evergreen, Colorado with a relative. For Labor Day this year we traveled by plane from SLC to Denver (cheap tickets on Southwest) and then spent the weekend at a family cabin in Winter Park. We arrived on Friday evening and proceeded to drive to Winter Park. We stopped in the foothills of Denver at the Chart House. The restaurant was very good and it provided a view of downtown Denver.
