We left home at around 2PM, trying to get an early start toward Eureka Springs and the rest of the trip. After fighting though the Hwy 301 traffic in southern Maryland, Frederickburg rush hour, and the overall Northern Virginia end-of-the-workday brouhaha, we finally popped out on the other side of Charlottesville and followed I-81 to Roanoke. We took the scenic byways around Charlottesville, and saw some truly beautiful horse farms. July 3, 2007 We have travelled over 900 miles in the last three days. Our first camp was in West Virginia (Gerald R. Freeman Campground; Sutton, WV)... Day two brought us to My Old Kentucky Home State Park in Bardstown, KY. Day three brought us to our first real stop along the way... Mammoth Cave National Park. MCNP was spectacular. We took a two hour tour through the most historic parts of the cave. Mammoth Cave is truly "Mammoth" with over 367 miles of recorded passages. Today we drove from Sahuarita to Camp Verde and checked into our Hotel. We then drove up to Jerome to check it out. Jerome is a very Touristy town. There were alot of bikers hanging out at the Conners Hotel. We saw some very old building and played tourist shopping at the various shops and stuff. We picked up some souvenirs for Will and Threresa and then headed off to our next destination. Montezuma's Castle is a wonderus place. The amazing cliff dwelling built by Indians in the 1100 was breathtaking to see. Although you can no longer go close to them they are still a site to behold. The kids ...
