My third trip to Alaska in three years… Since I arrived back from my short winter trip to Alaska in March 2008, I’ve been thinking about heading back up in the summer of 2009. I am on a budget like a lot of folks, so I started saving for this trip during the summer of 2008. The Cruise cost was $3490 for 2 adults and 1 child in a Balcony room. The Excursions were another $1092. We had flights from Atlanta that were another $900, and we also stayed a night in Seattle for another $100 (about 1 mile from the cruise and walking distance to the Space Needle). We took a cab to the port. We were on the Norwegian Sun. I think the time to go depends on the weather that Alaska has been having and what kind of stuff you are interested in doing. Brisbane - Sydney - San Francisco - Vancouver After about 18 hours of flying we finally arrived in Vancouver. Flew with United Airlines which was fine except it is surprising that an international airline these days does not have entertainment screens on the back of the seat. Still, the movies they showed were OK and as usual none of us got very much sleep so by the time we got to our hotel we were fairly exhausted.
