Intercontinental Grand Hotel Duomo, Milan

What a play with "Smoke and Mirrors!!!" I selected this hotel over the internet with the promise of a 5-Star Luxury facility in the Heart of Milan. The heart of Milan was true enough but nothing else. If you desire a step back to the times of Worls War Two decoration, clocks in the hallways with no hands, dark and sinister hallways, no appartent staff in the hotel at any time ao the day or night (except the front desk), dirty and sparce rooms, TV's that don't work, showers with scum and mold in almost all recesses topped off with a bar with non-existant bar attendents and a full team of hookers after 10 PM, this is the place for you. I selected the hotel with the impression that my wife and I would enjoy a relaxed, comfortable and elegant stay in the center of Milan directly adjacent to the Duomo. Again, this was true enough but the hotel failed to inform us that the view available of the Duomo would be from the side and covered with scaffolding and tarps, very pleasant sight!! This was coupled with exteme noise from re-furbishment activities during the day and loud street noise during the nights. As to the restaurant, I won't even go there. We did give the facility a chance but had only one meal during our 5 day stay. The rest of the time we sought better venues and menus. You asked why we stayed for 5 days under the circumstances? Try to move to a new hotel(of quality) in Milan on short notice!!! Good luck. Anyway, we learned our lesson. Never again.

I don't need to say anything. Just look at the photos I am posting. They say it's a 5 star LUX---NOT!!!! The moment the cab stopped outside I knew we were in trouble. The "welcoming" carpet was so worn that the "stars" were almost falling off. I saw 5 rooms including 118, 311, 308 and 418 before settling for 418--because the rest of the rooms had carpet so worn that I could not tell it's original color!! With a 2 year old in tow, I couldn't accept that. Anyway, we had no airconditioning--thank goodness we went in March cos the ventilation was provided by a window that does not close. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! The beds in the rooms all had obvious dents in the middle. The icing--I booked the a Junior Suite + 1 extra bed for EUR 440. They chaged me EUR 600 for an "apartement." I refused to sign the bill and I will be contesting the charge on my credit card. BE FOREWARNED! This place does a great job misrepresenting the property and in my opinion what they are doing is criminal.

Location was excellent. Upon booking, breakfast was included. At check-out, we were advised that breakfast was not included and credit card was charged 22 euros person per day. Room was not in working order- bathroom mirror light was out; safety deposit box was "out of order"; air conditioner made noise,but did not provide even fan-like cooling. Staff was rude and arrogant. Hotel is 1 star, overpriced, and poor value for the price of a room.
