Plaka Hotel, Athens

It my favorite hotel in Athens, the location is ideal..

I stayed at the Plaka Hotel this month and was pleasantly surprised with my stay. The hotel was easy to get to from the train station in Syntagma...simply walk a few blocks down the very busy shopping street and turn at the Cathedral. While walking from the train station I was pleased to pass a Starbucks which was conveniently right around the corner from the Hotel. From the hotel, you can walk everywhere. Only had to use public transportation to and from the airport. Wear Comfortable shoes! Checking into Plaka Hotel was easy and the lobby was very clean and modern. As for the room, Plaka Hotel is a great place to rest your feet and head while traveling in Athens. The room was very clean with light wood furnishing. It was equipped with satellite TV (we got 2 English Speaking channels during our stay. CNN and one showing repeats of sitcoms) and a mini fridge. I was happy to see that by booking a Double, I received a room very close. Two twin Beds pushed together to form a King. After staying in older hotels on Crete, I was very happy with the modern accomodations from Plaka. We had a view of a wall of a building across the street, but were able to walk to every destination to see close up. The bathroom was very small but clean and the toiletries were limited to bar soap and a body wash/shampoo combo (Which smelled very good). Plaka Hotel is one of the few hotels where touching the comforter on the bed didn't creep me out. Everything was clean and new feeling...hard to come by for such a great price in Europe. Breakfast is included in the stay; A nice assortment of juice, coffee, breads, croissants, greek yogurts with fruit spreads to mix in, cereal, eggs, and meats and cheeses. I was not counting on enjoying the free breakfast and had actually planned on walking to McDonald's. Also, on the first floor there is a lounge with coffee and tea available in a nice sitting area. There is a computer that can be used for a small fee and I believe there is wireless internet. Overall, a great stay. I was only there for 1 night and packed light. If you have a lot of things, you might have to get your luggage its own reservation, as the rooms are small.

Everythigs was perfected!... Great location on the Old Plaka City.. Wakling distance to the Acropolis, parlament, post off., and great little shops and restaurants.. I was there tow times since 1999.. Can't wait to go back.And my last visited to Athens, i got very lucky.,I got a room with an excelent view of "THE ACROPOLIS"... Very friendly staff.. Love it.. Alway recommented to all my friends..

The hotel and room were definitely a Three Star. But the location in Syntagma for a one night stay gives it a Five Star rating for me. I wanted to stay there for my extended six day stay starting the next weekend, but they were booked.

The location is excellent, the price good by Athens standards, and the staff was generally helpful. Breakfast was decent, some rooms have great views of the Acropolis. This is not a fancy hotel with big elevators and room service and a concierge, etc. but is perfect for those who don't need such amenities.
