The Parkinsons Disease society
By ,
Firstly may I say thank you so much for taking the time to read and consider this e mail. We are planning a black tie dinner in February 2008 for the Pishon masonic Lodge of London. The event is being held at Stock Brook Manor in Billericay on 16th Feb and will have a valentine theme. Upwards of 140 people are expected to attend All monies raised from sales of Raffle tickets and all other profits will this year be donated to The Parkinsons Disease society. My father was diagnosed with this disease some 20 years ago and sadly he died in 2002 having spent his final years in a nursing home. This is a particularly cruel disease which is progressively debilitating and often leads to dementia. Many breakthroughs have been made in the treatment of this disease and with the continued support of public donations the society is hopeful that a cure is close to being found. Please could you consider donating a prize for the raffle to be held at our dinner dance in 2008 as I know this would boost our profits considerably. Thank you so much again for taking the time to read this, and please feel free to contact the Manor who will confirm that this event is taking place. A historian's delight.
By ,
The only bad thing is the age of the structure and the potential fire hazard. In every other way, it is exceptional for anyone who wants to wlak to Westminster, Victoria Station, Trafalgar Square, and even the Tower. We were involved ina political demonstration, the Farmer's March of September 2002, and it was an enlightening and wonderful experience. Where else would families bring their brood to take part in apolitical demostration, and then break off early for a run through the Tate!

Top-notch hotel, great location and service
By ,
It's very convenient to much of central London, and we used the Embankment tube station every day. As mentioned elsewhere, it would be a perfect location if you have business with the government, or otherwise in the Westminster area. Everyone was polite and extraordinarily helpful: our visitor was having trouble finding it among the nearby construction and all the other white buildings; she called the hotel, and the concierge walked down the street to meet her! The breakfasts were an excellent start to the day. The room was a tad small for a grand hotel, but quite spacious after the B&Bs (and a convent room!) from earlier in the trip, and pleasingly luxurious. We had a great view of the London Eye, very dramatic at night. The cost was a bit of a stretch for us, though with a multi-night stay the price was surprisingly reasonable, though I'd suggest making other arrangements for laundry service. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Excellent location! But don't complain about service!
By ,
We were talked into the upgrade, which was 50 dollars a night. We were to get a newspaper, robe with slippers, bottled water and a upgraded room. Never got the paper, robesor water, till we asked, on the 4th day. The room was very nice, overlooking the River Thames. You could not see to much as the trees were in the way. But overall, from other rooms, way bigger! We had tea/coffee with cookies in the drawer. Not marked, found it on the 4th day we were there. Location, location, location! Excellent! Would recommend the hotel for that alone! Walk to Trafalgar Square, and the Underground was across the street. With our package with Northwest Airlines World Vacations, breakfast was included every morning. Excellent! You name it, we got it for breakfast! Otherwise it would of cost about 30 dollars each! Overall, I think the hotel was very nice. When we did check out and asked if everyting was ok, I did metion about the paper/water and robe, or lack of it....and was rather let down by the remarks from staff. They rather could not believe I was actually complaining about not getting the upgraded items, because, We were upgraded to an excutive suite after all...Hummm...guess you can't complain afterall....

Opulant, mysterious. Think, the Shining. Spacious rooms. Convenient, Clean and friendly ghosts. the structure itself is imposing and stately. High ceilings kicked ass. Service dignified and silent.

Absolutely Fantastic - Highly Recommended
By ,
We only stayed for one night, for a trip to London to see The Lion King @ the Lyceum theatre. We found the hotel staff to be really friendly and helpful from the moment we stepped into the building until it was time to leave. The rooms are lovely, ok in need of a bit attention in places (water stains on the ceiling), but nothing major and certainly nothing that spoilt our time there. Our friends also stayed and when asking the staff to change their bed to a double, this was seen to within a couple of hours. Not bad for a hotel that was full. The breakfast was fatastic with fresh food and courteous service. The location is 1st class, we upgraded to a river view - definately worth it. 5-10 mins walk from Covent Garden and all the theatres. Overall a really pleasant stay and highly recommended.

We were very comfortable here
By ,
Unlike a lot of European hotels, our room was very spacious although like most European hotels, the bathroom was small. The decor was very attractive, if a little worn and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was excellent, friendly, helpful and courtious. You couldn't ask for a better location for sight seeing in London, it is only a few blocks from Big Ben but on a quiet side street.
