Definitely a find
We stayed at the Gounod in March during the Festival of '05. The Hotel is an little bit of a walk up hill from the Promenade d'Anglais, the main road from the airport. But this gets you to a spot removed enopugh from the comotion of Festival that you aren't in it all the time. The hotel staff were very helpful, exchanging money, giving directions, etc. The Room we had was very spacious and well appointed, though not luxurious. The bath was exceptionally clean and comfortable to use. The hotel offers breakfast consisting of cereals, eggs that you boil yourself, waffels that you make yourself, juices, grapefruit, coffee that you can make a pretty decent cafe au lait with, teas. It definitely beat going out to find sustenance first thing each day. The train and bus depot is a short walk up the hill.
