Great place to lay your head
My husband & I traveled to Paris in October '06 with two other couples and found the Hilton Paris to be exactly what we were looking for: a good, safe, clean place to sleep, and a staff fluent in English for six non-French speakers. It's not super-close to a lot of the top attractions (except the Eiffel Tower, of course), but its proximity to a Metro station (Bir Hakeim) and an RER station (for day trips like Versailles) is great.
Our room was very comfortable, extremely clean, and had a roomy bathroom, even by American standards. We had an Eiffel Tower view with a balcony. You will pay a bit extra, but seeing the Tower sparkle at night is definitely worth it. Try the boulangerie just a couple of blocks down Avenue de Suffren for a French experience of morning pastries and coffee, but take the Metro if you're looking for evening dining. Skip the hotel food--it's typically overpriced.
