rude staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/10/10
I didn't like anything about this place but what turned me off right away was the rude staff. Especially the one that seemed to be in charge. The room we had had no window and that section was closed fro within so my son who went to the pool area with his guitar was locked out at ten and spent the night outside. We had to find everything ourselves as the staff did not even show us our rooms except by pointing in the general direction. They were so rude that we felt uncomfortable and left first thing in the morning. I have never stayed anywhere like this. Stay away

Owner's Rebuttal
By martha, 9/9/08
Please read “all” of the Galleon House reviews. Until this review we have never found it necessary to respond to a review in any review forum. We have never had anything taken from a room since we have been in business. It is unfortunate that these young men have chosen to write these unsubstantiated comments about our hotel and staff. We can only speculate that their purpose is less than an honorable one. There are two sides to every story and they neglected to address their behaviors and actions while on the premises. Needless to say the Volleyball Team is not welcome at our establishment anytime in the future. We invite anyone who wishes to know more about our hotel and staff to please call us. We will be happy to answer any of your questions.

Never, ever, again...
By alwyzabuckeye, 9/2/08
One half of our volleyball group stayed here this past weekend and instead of a relaxing stay, they were robbed and harassed by the staff of this hotel. Upwards of $1200 worth of iPods, cameras, cash, clothing, and other electronics were stolen out of the room, which, conveniently was on the TOP floor and had no sign of forced entry. No other rooms were touched. Instead of offering help with this disturbing matter, the owners simply said "sorry" and then proceeded to accuse the men of making false statements. One employee even called another B&B owner (who happened to be hosting the other half of the group and is a personal friend) and made rude and defamatory remarks towards our entire group of travellers, even going so far as to accuse us of breaking into the honor bar, which we never even saw. Although they claim 'locked' entry ways and 'barbed wire' these are no where to be found. No discount was offered and the men had already paid the bill in full. Leaving this beautiful island with a bad taste in our mouths wasn't in our travel plans. We will come back to St. Thomas, but will never stay at this unprofessionally run hotel again.

Good Value and Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/4/07
Galleon House is a good value. It was clean and comfortable for a short stay. This is not a luxury Bed & Breakfast. The bed was not comfortable, but the rooms were clean and everything seems freshly painted. The grounds are nicely landscaped, good view of the water and down town Charlotte Amalie, and views of neighborhood. Lots of steps to climb to the front desk and rooms. Parking on street available and no problem finding parking for my rental. Breakfast is limited to 3 choices of menu items, but good deal. Pool area is clean and area is very quiet. Good for short stay or if you plan to be out and around the town most of the day. Short walk to down town and shopping. Suggests using taxis or preferably car rentals to get around for dinners, beaches, and nightly outings, etc.

Loved this place!
By Britt, 6/20/06
THe Galleon House is quaint inn with a gorgeous view of Charlotte Amalie, the cruise ships, and local homes. Gracious hospitality and good value. Not a place to go if you like to be pampered. This is a no frills B&B that is a great place to come back to after a day of sightseeing. Staff made us feel welcome.

Great location during the day
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/5/06
I had read the reviews of this hotel prior to booking it, so I did not have high expectations. The rates are inexpensive, and it has a great location in downtown Charlotte Amalie. The walk to the hotel (up several steps) is brutal. Especially after you just got off an airplane, and are driving around on the opposite side of the street than you are used to. My husband & I rented a car, because we were told taxis are very pricey, and we also wanted to explore the island. Besides getting used to driving on the opposite side of the road, I would recommend renting a car. Our room had two cans of Raid in it, which I thought was very tacky. The view of the city from the room was great. The bed was very old & uncomfortable. The cooked to order breakfast was good, but I would recommend getting there early. We had to wait for a table one morning. There is virtually no nightlife in the area, so I wouldn't recommend planning to go out to a bar and walking back to the room. Luckily, my husband & I have a friend who lives on the island, and he showed us around. The hotel has a little pool, and the area is nicely landscaped. There is a resaurant on the steps up to the hotel (Herme) which is very nice. If you aren't planning on spending a lot of time in the room, I would recommend the Galleon House. It is an inexpensive way to experience the USVI.

Superior location to shopping and great restaurants: 2 of the islands best are steps away. At $149 in high season with air conditioning, balcony and a great view, The Galleon House is a good value

I will never visit this hotel again.
By Reshonda, 6/28/05
I read the review before I went to the hotel and I thought the person was over exagerating but they are not. Basically everything he said is true so I am not going to repeat it.The room is not worth the price they are charging. The hotel sits in a good shopping location and that is the only good thing. The bed is not comfortable and there were stains on the sheets. There are about 7 flights of stairs maybe even more just to get to the checkin desk. The shower pressure is bad. There is a can of raid flying insect spray and off in the room. There were a few little bugs flying in the room. I could not stay at the hotel and I was suppose to be there for about 6 days. I check out and wen to another hotel. Don't get my wrong I am not trying to discourage you going to the hotel but if want to be comfortable this is not the hotel for you. The staff is friendly.
