Great location during the day

I had read the reviews of this hotel prior to booking it, so I did not have high expectations. The rates are inexpensive, and it has a great location in downtown Charlotte Amalie.
The walk to the hotel (up several steps) is brutal. Especially after you just got off an airplane, and are driving around on the opposite side of the street than you are used to. My husband & I rented a car, because we were told taxis are very pricey, and we also wanted to explore the island. Besides getting used to driving on the opposite side of the road, I would recommend renting a car.
Our room had two cans of Raid in it, which I thought was very tacky. The view of the city from the room was great. The bed was very old & uncomfortable. The cooked to order breakfast was good, but I would recommend getting there early. We had to wait for a table one morning. There is virtually no nightlife in the area, so I wouldn't recommend planning to go out to a bar and walking back to the room. Luckily, my husband & I have a friend who lives on the island, and he showed us around.
The hotel has a little pool, and the area is nicely landscaped. There is a resaurant on the steps up to the hotel (Herme) which is very nice.
If you aren't planning on spending a lot of time in the room, I would recommend the Galleon House. It is an inexpensive way to experience the USVI.
