Health and Greed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/28/07
The Delta Chelea is one of the few hotels where one can find a good muesli at breakfast, but I had my last bowl of Chelsea muesli this morning (Jan. 28/07). Why: (1) Price The price has gone up. $6.79 (including taxes) for a small bowl of muesli and fruit is outrageous by any stretch of the imagination, particularly when it is in a self-serve cafeteria in a lower-end hotel. (2) Health The fruit (apples, prunes and peaches) served with the muesli is loaded with added sugar. Adding sugar is particularly aggregeous in a hotel frequented by so many families, when we now know the serious harm too much sugar does to families and society. While on the subject of health, quite some time ago I stopped going to the Chelsea cafeteria for meals to take advantage of the salad bar, because it is totally lacking in complete protein choices.

A dump
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/3/06
This hotel is a dump. 8 of us each had our own rooms. Two of us had nice renovated rooms with balconies. The other rooms were a complete dump. 1) Carpets horribly stained 2) Window, but no balcony 3) Keys were given to one of us for the room, but he walked in on someone else who was there. Apparently he was given the wrong key and room number. 4) Wallpaper ripping apart off the wall 5) Outlet cover for cable TV was ripped off the wall so you could see the hole in the drywall. 6) Desk and cabinets finish is peeling off This hotel is a dump. I wish there was a place to post pictures of the hotel room, so then everyone would see what I was talking about. Walking into the hotel. The main lobby is nice and very upscale looking, but don't be fooled. The rooms are a 1 star or less rating when it comes to cleanliness.

We had a fantastic time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/27/06
Right from the get go my 9 year old grandaughter was made to feel like she was a princess on her very first trip to Toronto. The friendly check in staff greeted us warmly .The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas and our room was very comfortable and clean. The family fun area was a blast!! The water slide was a big success. The hotel was located so conveniently to shopping, theatres and restaurants. We can't wait to go back. Thanks so much. Nana

Give it a miss
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/21/06
I stayed at this hotel three times in the last year on business. I have given it a fair chance. Now I wont be going back. Service (reception desk) is always very slow. The "all-day" in-room dining stops at 11pm. On my last visit I had a room service meal for the first time. The food quality was poor: onion soup was lukewarm, the chicken breast in the salad was old and tough. The fruit salad served at breakfast should have been thrown out days earlier (it was off!). In the unlucky event that you have stay there, make sure that your room is not adjacent the fire escape/stairs. The security guards patrol these at night and so the opening and closing of the doors and the two-way radio noise is guaranteed to wake you at regular intervals.

AMAZING Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/29/06
I stayed at the Delta Chelsea on business for the first time this year...I usually opt for more upscale accommodations but had no choice this time. Was I ever impressed! I had a problem using Internet at the hotel so i called the 1 800 support number listed in my room. Since they were unable to help me, they said they would contact someone on site to help. Within 30 minutes, a tech was at my door. The problem was found to be with my laptop so at that point most hotels would basically say, "sorry, that's your problem" more or less. Not at Chelsea! She spent time with me, fixed it and showed me exactly what to do to correct the problem. Super nice and very knowledgeable. Way above and beyond. All the staff here make you feel right at home. Great job!

not impressed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/30/06
for this hotel being rated 4 star we were not impressed! i have never been in such a dirty hotel room in my life. the room had a musty smell, the carpets, drapery, bed skirts were stained terribly.which i'm sure didn't help with the smell.the patio door was so stiff my finger got pinched while trying to close it.we had to have it open for the two days to try to air the room out.the only thing we liked about it was the activities for the kids. they really enjoyed the pool, arcade, kids play room and the room in which they had movies and popcorn..i certainly wouldn't pay the 180.00 again to stay there......next time we visit toronto we will find other accomodations that are cleaner....

An expensive headache
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/23/06
I recently stayed at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto -- the service and policies are very poorly advertised, written, and clarified to incoming customers and don't reflect well on its 4-5 star rating. I arrived at Gerrard Street after a 10 hour drive to be greeted by hotel workers protesting their recent suspensions. I needed a police escort to enter the garage to park my car. Hotel desk staff ignored the situtation out front, and pretended it didn't exist. The receptionist I dealt with lied about the quoted balance being charged to my credit cards that day. I wasn't informed about the hotel policy of requiring an additional $200.00 deposit at check in time. I found out about this when checking out and reviewing my bill. (The hotel staff and management I dealt with wouldn't provide a paper statement verifying this fact at check in. You are forced to check your credit card history for the hotel's charges.) While most of the desk staff are personable and professional, there are employees who need updating and retraining in customer relations. Food from the restaurants and room service is of average quality -- very expensive for the total cost incurred by hotel guests(this includes the taxes & gratuities factored in). Although this is a very convenient location to shops and other attractions, it borders a very seamy part of town. I wouldn't recommend walking near the Yonge Street entrance after 9:00 pm at night -- many street people congregate in the area with questionable activity occurring. Travel buses arrive continually at the hotel -- the lobby began resembling Union Station. I discovered there is a communication disconnect / miscommunication occurring between AAA in the U.S., CAA (Canada) and the hotel regarding reservation policies, etc. AAA recommended this hotel, but I wouldn't visit this hotel again.

Good hotel with poor service
By Renzo, 8/17/06
The quality of service doesn't agree with the price. This opinion is more related with front desk and cafeteria. Poor planning of maintenance create discomfort to customers that could be avoided.

Never Again
By Stormie Coppedge, 8/9/06
I was a guest at the Delta Chelsea in Toronto during Caribana weekend. For this hotel to be a Five Star facility the service and policies definitely werent Five Star worthy. The Policies 1. Guests paying in cash should be informed before making reservations that an additional $200.00 deposit will be required at check in time. This should also be in writing so there are no discrepancies. 2. Guests should also be informed that during such venues as the Caribana a wristband policy will be enforced and non-guests will not be permitted in the hotel after a specified time. This should be in writing as well. 3. Guests should also be informed at check in time, as I was that the entire visit is charged on the credit card no matter what. Even though this wasnt true the employees should receive additional training on the policies. The Service 1. Valet service should also come with a specified wait time. If the car doesnt arrive within 5 minutes of submission then some form of reward should be given for the lack of service. 2. When a car is dropped off there should be someone there to greet you, open the door, and park the car immediately. No one should have to sit in the car, wait for an attendant, or walk to a doorman to hand the keys over. A valet is an employee, as in a hotel or on a ship, who performs personal services for guests or passengers. Its a good idea to have your valet persons remember this definition. The first receptionist was rude, unhelpful, and lied about the entire balance being charged because we were able to pay cash at the end of our visit. The manager on duty at check in time was not empathetic at all regarding the $200.00 deposit or wristband policy. The valet service was not worth the money. We were not greeted by anyone anytime we arrived. The wait time was ridiculous whether we were picking up or dropping off. This hotel had the absolute worst service I have ever experienced. As an adult I felt as if I was being treated like a child with a curfew. The wristband enforcement was pathetic and the additional deposit was deplorable. This hotel will never receive a recommendation from me nor will I ever visit this hotel for any reason in the future. I would rather stay in a motel than any Delta Chelsea establishment no matter where it is.

READ THIS !!! SICK??, TOO BAD
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/06
I arrived in Toronto on July 18'th, on a last minute flight. I was to have surgery at one of the Hospitals, and with a few extra minutes I went straight to the hotel to book a room. The Chelsea had been recommended by the Hospital staff who told me that you will get a discount if you are a patient (ie: out of town guests with medical proof). As I was checking in, I explained that I was here for surgery and was wondering what discount applied. The young man then told me (with not a very nice look in his eyes), "that's too bad, because we are running at slightly more than half capacity, so we don't have to offer any discount". I left it at that, but I am hoping that the thousands of people who travel to Toronto for medical reasons will bypass this hotel, and for all the thousands of Hospital staff not to recommend this very cruel hotel.
