Best Hotel in Victoria!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/05
I liked this hotel. It had great service and they were very kind. This hotel is children friendly and is in the heart of the most exciting place in the city.If you are staying here, be sure to check out the Butchart Gardens, Grayline Bus tours are covienently located right out the magnificent entrance. They have a swimming pool that is good for all ages and even for very young kids (they have a nice heated kiddie pool). This hotel blew me over by it's magnificent charm.

Awesome times a million!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/05
Pros: EVERYTHING!!!!The pool was wonderful for playing tag in the water(heated), the young children swimming area was heated and made them feel like royalty and plus, the hot tub/whirlpool was SOOO comfy. The dining expierience was great and everything tasted as if it were being presented to her majesty. The service was so great. They really try to give you the best they can here. When we needed quick food, they called the nearest delivery place for us and rushed our food straight up to us because it was late. The style of the Empress is beautiful and gives you a wonderful taste of old English acheitecture. We went to explore around the hotel on the first day and found breath-taking waterfalls in the confrence center adjoining the conservatory and the Empress. We let the kids roam around the archives and find routes to near-by places and we were surprised to find out that the staff actually told them about an awesome outdoor gardens. It was wonderful staying here!!! I was cetainly "Empressed"!!!!

Disappointed
By Paul&Monica, 8/11/05
Dislikes: Our room was shabby looking, there weren't enough towels and water glasses for our family of 4, one towel rack wasn't enough either, a seagull and his poop stayed by our window, the construction noise was distracting, the layout of the room was such that when you opened up the closet it collided with the entry door, and when I complained, the hotel didn't even say, "Boo". Likes: The location was convenient and the breakfast offered a variety of foods.

Not just for the rich and famous
By eputz, 6/1/05
This was my second stay and I'm going back next week. Cannot get enough of the royal treatment. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, that works there treats you like royalty. They are so nice, so accomodating. They are happy to serve you. The rooms are light, fresh, easy to live in and oh so comfortable. Everything is in the right place to make your stay go smoothely. The beds are like clouds billowing around your body. There's plenty of space for everything. The Empress Hotel is smack in the middle of everything. You can walk to Chinatown, great shopping, restaurants, the museum, boat rides, etc. You must experience their High Tea in the tea room, it's so she-she. The restaurants are both excellent. If you upgrade to the second floor Gold suites you can eat all day for free in their private lounge. I love their room service, priced well and the food gets there fast and perfectly hot. If your going for business they are very helpful and knowledgeable. For pleasure, they can steer you away from wasting your time and money. I travel extensively and have found no better place to stay for work or vacationing.

By Jamie Lee, 5/23/05
The Fairmont Empress is breathtakingly amazing! The moment you walk up to this hotel you are in awe of it's beauty. The spa and many shops with in the hotel make even a rainy day of your vaction worthwhile. I highly recommend this hotel! I promise you, you will never want to leave! If you can only afford to spend one night here...it is worth every penny!

Location, Location, Location
By Lynn, 5/18/05
This is a grand old victorian style hotel. It is in the best place in town. Almost everything is in walking distance. Our hotel did not have air conditioning, but we didn't it. This hotel is an older hotel, so it isn't quite as modern, but it is nice. It is one of the few places in town, that every single person would know of the building, because it is so large. It is right on the water, so you can easily catch any of those activities right in front of the hotel. Also, the bus staging area is in the rear of the hotel, so that is easy as well. The museum is right across the street and the shopping is also in walking distance.

Can't beat the historic location!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/16/05
Staying at the Empress in Victoria is a step back into a classic age in English Canadian history, while you do pay a bit more for that pleasure -- and the best location in town! Room sizes can vary in this older hotel. We mentioned that it was a birthday and the front desk was very nice about finding a nice room with a ceiling fan and window that actually opened. The bathroom is adequate but not huge like new luxury hotels. You can walk everywhere from the Empress and the lights are so pretty at night. We were impressed how "kid-friendly" the Empress is, our youngster ate free at lunch and room service for nighttime milk and cookies (delicious!)is on the house. The Empress is famous for its daily tea, in a old-fashioned drawing room with piano music. It's very nice, while overrated and pricey. I recommend the tea at Buchart Gardens as a greater value for the money, with a lovely terrace overlooking the gardens. Do buy the Empress tea in the gift shop if you want an elegant souvenir tin and great-tasting tea!

My Favorite Hotel
By nuclearose, 4/28/05
This is my favorite hotel, I stay here once a year and even honeymooned here. I have never had anything but impecable service. The only little glitch I ever encountered was that they charged me twice for my honeymoon, so my credit card called me and helped me get it all cleared up. Stay at the gold level if you can afford it, or better yet, one of the harbor suites, they have heated floors and jetted tubs and are awesome. The bengal lounge and having tea are must do's. Some people complain that the place has gotten worse since Fairmount purchased it, but I think they are doing a fine job with it.
