Outdated

The walk through the lobby was nice, but the room is very outdated, the pillow was a slab of foam, and I had to keep the bathroom door closed, as what is supposed to be the exhaust vent, kept filling my room with cigarette smoke. The only saving grace was the location and free internet.

Best customer service ever
By ,
Pros: Room was bigger than many double bed rooms I've seen Close to tons of eating places and several attractions Grocery store and drugstore in connected mall Best service staff- reservations, concierge, housekeeping were all SO HELPFUL and we stayed 3 nights, so we really know Cons: Rooms are older, linoleum and stuff are older there is space under the doors allowing noise to travel easily, we just shoved a towel in the crack

Location wins, not much else.
By ,
The place was clean and respectable enough, but had the time-machine to the 70s feel. Staff seemed confused at times and couldn't explain certain features of the hotel. The indepedent gym (attached but not part of) the hotel was a joke. It was suppose to be complimentary, but they tried to charge $10 for the 'deluxe package'. Another time warp. And the patrons, well - not a 'family friendly' gym if you get the drift.

Hot, Stuffy, Rundown, Unfriendly
By ,
We must have run into the same desk staff as brain22. We arrived early and a disinterested desk clerk was adamant that no check in was allowed before 3:30 - no offer to store baggage, no offer to check if any rooms were actually ready, generally rude. Actually getting into the room was no improvement. The room was hot, stuffy and well worn. There was a portable AC unit in the corner. When you turned it on, you couldn't carry on a conversation (or hear the TV) and you got a trickle of cold air. There was no corresponding unit for the bedroom (we had a suite), so your choices were to swelter or to open a window and listen to the rooftop AC unit some twenty or thirty feet away. The suite had a refrigerator that looked like it had been bought at a garage sale. When you walked around the room in light colored socks, you could see the dirt accumulate on the bottom of your feet. The "hot" tub was tepid. The only bright spot was the bell man. He was friendly, courteous and efficient. Oh yeah, the location is good. Don't get your hopes up about the attached "mall" - it's more a collection of tired shops that happen to be in the same building. They do give it a kind of third world feel. These guys also own the Grove Hotel in Boise, but don't expect anything remotely similar to the Grove, it's nothing that nice. For the price paid, it was extremely disappointing and marred an otherwise pleasant trip.

Nice Hotel, great location...tired rooms
By ,
we really liked the location of this hotel. it was very close to good restaurants and pubs. stanley park was only a couple blocks down and robson street was about a 15-20min walk. they have a good package deal called the "gourmet stay & play" where they give u free parking, $75 towards a restaurant of your choice and 2 free breakfasts. that package deal worked out very well for us. but the thing we didn't like about the hotel was the rooms were old and tired. they were very clean but just old and starting to become a bit rundown, although the lobby and all common areas were very well kept up and elegant. the rooms have not been updated in a very long time. the windows are all single paned with no heat insulation and starting to corrode around the edges. no lightbulbs were flourescent to save energy. the decor was outdated. great staff, good room service, and a clean hotel, just older, but still elegant. we would recommend it, but it was expensive for the value. i guess you're paying for location too.

Great view, nice rooms, avg service.
By ,
The first thing I disliked was the lack of friendliness at the front desk. We tried checking in at 3:07 and got balled out for not waiting until 3:30. When we asked for a water view room (as we had requested earlier) we were told by a shouting clerk that the hotel was sold out and we have to take what we were given. However, when we came back at 3:35, we were given the keys to our room on the 14th floor. We took the very slow elevators(hey...they got us up and down every time) upstairs and our room was right next to the noisy elevators(you could hear the clinging and clanging at midnight). We opened the door and...(this is the good part of our stay)... We could see not only several high rise buildings in front of us, and not only beautiful mountains with leftover snow on them, but we could see part of English Bay. YES! We got our waterview. The room had 4 rooms in it; a large living room, a small bedroom with a walkin closet, a small kitchen and a good size bathroom. There is nothing special about the color scheme, but the rooms are very roomy and quite comfortable. Other than no maid service on the first day, everything was fine. Just remember to leave your "do not disturb" sign, on the green colored side (maid service) when you leave for the day. The location is very convenient...it is close to the bus stops and all attractions are practially within walking distance. The conceirge (sp) downstairs was quite helpful and let us use the business center any time we wanted...they were extremely helpful, unlike the front desk. If I go back to Vancouver, I would stay at this hotel again. It is a good value.

just back from Vancouver
By ,
The Coast Hotel was the perfect place for me to stay - close to Stanley Park and running. Within walking distance to downtown. Lots of amenities like the Denman Fitness Centre and the pool. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and clean. Lots of different ethnic foods wihin a couple of blcoks. My experience couldn't have been better. I'd definitely stay there again!

great place for kids
By ,
I stayed there Apr 2006 with my three daughters 13, 13 and 10. The site was very spacious and we had a nice view from our room on the 11th floor. We would have liked a room much higher up. My kids loved the pool and all the hotel staff was very friendly to them. The beach is nearby as well as many, many good restaurants. The only drawback was that they were redoing the hall carpet so it was a bit missy, but, hey, we were in the hallway for only a very brief time. I highly recommend this hotel.
