Good local ski resort. Half pipe is NEVER open.
By ,
I have gone to Snowshoe for ten years now. A good basic ski resort with a nice little village to pass the time eating and drinking. They have a half pipe that I have only seen open once in ten years... snow does not determine if the half pipe opens. They had plenty this year and didn't bother opening it again. So, if you want to bring your kids up and ski some basic slopes, than this is your place. If you want to party with your friends and snowboard or ski a bit, this is your place. If you are looking for a half pipe, adventurous skiing, this is not your place.

Loved it
my family and I went to snowshoe in February 2007, and our stay was excellent. We stayed in expedition station and I have to say the conditions were superb. The room was beautiful and everyone was very helpful. And to the KY writer, I have been going to snowshoe for 20+ years and have never once had a problem. You have to understand you're not in a big city where anything is accessable within 5 minutes, including the state road. Just because you don't know how to drive in the snow doesn't mean it's anybody else's fault but yourself. Also, it's a ski resort, which means...OMG...it's got...SNOW!!!! And as for your comment about the rain, I've talked to several people over the years and have learned lots of things just by being pleasant and asking questions in a nice way. One of the things I learned was that there are lightning sensors that detect lightning in the area of snowshoe, and if there is lightning within 20 miles of the resort the are required by law to shut down all pools and lifts.

Love it.
By ,
We have been several times to Snowshoe and love it. It (by far) has the best skiing in the southeast. We stayed at Expidition Station in 2006 and loved it. We skied right up to the ski locker room. Rooms are new, clean and have great views of the bunny slope area. The snow blowers were loud at night though. We have also stayed at Highland House (3/06) and Rimfire (2/07). These are both older places, but still clean and convienent to slopes. HH is better as you can ski right up to the door of the ski lockers. Rimfire is a walk across the 'street' carrying your skis. We had some minor problems with Rimfire -fireplace didn't work right was the main one (maintenance never made it to check on it). I think everything is overpriced, but I still like Snowshoe the best.

1st and last time @ Snowshoe!
By ,
Hello, We skied Snowshoe Feb. 26 - March 1, 2007. We arrived on Sunday Feb. 25 in the evening. There had been about 6 in. of snow over the weekend and they had not plowed any of the roads or sidewalks. They said it was a "freak snow storm". We knew we were in trouble when a ski resort describes 6 in. of snow in February as a "freak snow storm". You needed 4x4 and or tire chains to keep from getting stuck!! What a mess!! We had chains and had to use them. The next several days went OK but the last day was a disaster. In the afternoon on March 1 it began to rain. No storm, no thunder, no lighting, just moderate rain and fog. Ok, that's not their fault. However, they proptly shut down the runs and chair lifts leaving hundreds of people stranded and the bottom. They claimed there was lightning in the area. What ever!! There were only low status clouds and rain. No storms. They only lightning they saw was a jar of the white lightning. I believe they were ready to go home, so they shut down the lifts for nothing but a little rain. I wonder what they do if it snows hard?? Take your skiing and hard earned money out west, and forget about a resort that does not maintain the roads and sidewalks, and shuts down when it rains. We will never be back.

Snowshoe Resort - MLK Weekend '07
By ,
I consider myself to be a beginner skier, though I've also done a few blue intermediate slopes. This location has like 57 slopes from green "easy" to double black diamond "experate" slopes. Just whatever you do don't stay in the Power Ridge condos expecially unit number 3. It's got so many problems from things not working to cold air leaking in under the walls.

Top of World Isn't
By ,
We found the skiing at Snowshoe to be very good, despite almost no natural snow in late 2006. Lift lines varied from none to 15 minutes at Grabhammer. Our comments are related to the accomodations at the Top of World condos. I would never stay in these condos again. The one bedroom condo we rented was incredibly small. For example, the bedroom was only about 1 foot wider than the queen bed. The mattress was very old and thin and quite uncomfortable (neither of us slept through the night). The decor was horrible (think 1960s wood paneling). No ventilation in the bedroom (baseboard heating). Oven did not work (to reheat pizza). Outside of the condo, I could see where Interwest was trying to manage its P&L by deferring maintenance. At the main pool, only one of two outdoor hot tubs was working. Several buses (required to go from TOW to the Village) only had their front (smaller) door working, which made it difficult for all to enter and exit.

LOVED IT!!
By ,
My fiance and I visited Snowshoe for the first time last December and loved it! We can't wait to go back (even though I'm not graceful on skis). We stayed at the Rimfire Lodge, which had a romantic fireplace and a great view. Can't wait to go back!

The Vantage Inn @ Snowshoe
By ,
The vantage Inn was a nice inn. We stayed in the suite section. We walked into our room 106 and it was hotter than h*ll in there. The air was not working. We got a lady in the room and she kept saying that it had been off, yet the air conditioner was on when we entered the room. So after an hour, they finally realized it wasn't operating after i told them i refuse to stay in that suite.( i'm pregnant and heat is bad) We paid $170.00 for one night , so we deserved better. So they moved us to the suite upstairs which was nicer. Yet, we walked in, it was about 8 degrees cooler, yet after we agreed to take the room, the air wasn't working there either! Those were the only two suites they had, so we stayed there and suffered. Eventually it got really cool outside so it wasn't so bad, but they really need to work on their air conditioners. The room was very nice however. I enjoyed the 42" flat screen t.v. and the jacuzzi in the bathroom. We had an upstairs loft and overlooked a view of the mountains and the lake. Overall the room was very nice. The bedroom was a little dusty, but they were not planning on having anyone in that room, so we couldn't fault them for that. The beds were very comfortable. It was nice since we were the only ones in the whole building, so we could use the hot tubs downstairs all night long as long as you were staying at the inn.

Snowshoe is a blast!!!
By ,
I have been coming to Snowshoe 2-3 times a year for 12 years, and have yet to find a "Vantage Inn". I truly believe some people's idea of a great vacation is complaining about everything to everybody. It's when these types are at their best. The people working at the resort have always been very friendly and helpful. I've been coming so long, that I'm recognized by some and treated as if I'm part of a family. Years ago, I too worked in the service industry, and know how difficult serving people can be. The food has always been top-notch, though as all resorts, I feel overpriced. (Try the Foxfire Grill!). The slopes are some of the best to be had. Conditions are usually favorable. I hear that Snowshoe averages 20" more snow a year than Mont Tremblant in Canada!!! In the summer, try the Raven Golf Club. My friends and I organize a trip every summer. What a great bunch! Go to Snowshoe, I'll be willing to say, a good time will be had by all.
