By Robert Deering, 8/30/11
Unable to take shower or bath all weekend due to clogged drain. Complaint to front desk met with minimal effort to correct.

Ongoing family tradition
By ron, 8/21/11
Since we have been going to Pipestem for the past 17 years with friends, we decided this year to take grandchildren (11), (9) (boys) and they had a wonderful experience as well as grandma & grandpa. Both boys made the River walk and successfully crossed the river which felt refreshingly warm. No one fell!! (11) year old went to the top of Farley's with grandpa and proud he made it. Tram the most favorite of all. Min. golf course badly in need of repair but we noticed other new additions which are great such as playground down below, split rail fences, etc. Will be glad to see Black Bear open again. Liked Mulligan's, too.... Food at main lodge disappointing and expensive. Brandon's a good place across the road from entrance to Pipestem. Also, we liked the DQ scenic place surprisingly....which is near Hinton. Another night was Pizza Hut @Princeton. We would love to have a large family reunion but the Lodge eating accommodations would not work well. For the lodge food being supplied by the Oaks, I'm surprised it's not better as we love the Oaks nearby. Mt.Creek rooms excellent although surprise at no hairdryers available yet.

Very Nice Stay
By Jrebeccam, 10/12/10
My wife I enjoyed a 3 day weekend in the McKeever Lodge at this state park resort. There were plenty of activities to enjoy at the park and the scenery in the area is spectacular. Definitely take the chairlift to the bottom of the gorge. The food was just a little over-priced, but that is to be expected in an isolated resort such as this. We enjoyed the 70's architecture and found the room very comfortable. Our mini-suite was quite large and the view was awesome (if you want canyon views, stay on the 5th floor or higher to see over the trees). The beds were extremely comfortable. OUR ONLY COMPLAINT: we are non-smokers and were pleased to see that all rooms are non-smoking. Unfortunately, that does not include the balconies of each room. So if you are sensitive to 2nd hand smoke, you may not be able to enjoy your private balcony for the duration of your stay. In our case, the smoke from the balcony below blew unimpeded up into our balcony area for nearly the entire weekend. Our inability to use our balcony was our only significant complaint for the weekend. Hopefully, the management will change that policy to make "non-smoking" truly non-smoking.

Cross Country Skiing
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/22/10
Just back from a weekend trip to the park to try cross country skiing for the first time. We rented the equipment there and skied on the golf course which is recommended for beginners. I was told that this is the most snow they have seen in some time. Obviously some winters do not afford that many days for cross country skiing. Understand this is not a cross country skiing center but merely a state park that offers this as one of their recreation outlets for their guest. I would like to see them offer some groomed trails on the golf course. This could draw a lot of cross country skiers for those winters when they have adequate snow. We had a great time and plan to visit again.

Very Satisfied
By wv, 10/3/09
Took the wife and kid and had a great time. we stayed in one of the cabins. The cabin was nice, not real comfortable but you shouldn't be inside too much at a park like this. The tram was fun although it scared the bejesus out of the woman. I loved the golf course very nice views, I wish we would have gone over to the par 3 course one of the days it looked like country club conditions. If I had to fault this place on anything it would be the cuisine. We didn't try the place @ the bottom of the tram (which I've heard is better) but the lodge resturaunt was just so-so. Outdoors wise this place has everything horseback, fishing, golf, hiking, mtn biking etc.

I think it will be a yearly trip.
By Joshua, 4/13/08
The peace and quiet was wonderful. The staff was excellent. The living condition were comfortable and clean. I'm a second generation Pipestem goer and I think I'll end up going about as much as my parents have over the last 20 years....

Not the Beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/20/05
Pipestem is a economical state park that has all the things a resort would have. It is truely a great place to vacation. Thankfully, Pipestem it is not hot and humid like the east coast beaches. In a way I hope that all the potential readers do not go to Pipestem..... then it will remain economical and well... my little secret. By the way, The golf course is nice. Better bring someone with you because after 10:00pm things start to slow down, ie no bars, dance clubs, and all the things that come with that.
