I would not go back - Dirty Rooms
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/09
I stayed at the Charleston House this week and it was not clean. I had a non smoking room and it smelled like an ash tray. The linens smelled of tobacco. When I cheked in the carpet was not swept. I found makeup on one of the bed pillows and I found an empty gum container in the floor and a used bandaid. I will not stay here again. Recommend you find someplace else.

Avoid This Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/22/08
We arrived at 2 PM but were told to wait until 3 PM (check-in time). No rooms were clean at 3 PM and we were told to check back each half hour. At 4 PM, they began assigning rooms. We were told our reservation had been cancelled. I told them the date I had changed (not cancelled) the reservation and the name of the man who changed it but that didn't help. We had to talk to the manager who got us a room across town but the car event was on the street where Holiday Inn was located. We gave up and drove home. Very poorly run hotel. The only good thing is its location.

Elevator Noise
By JamesW, 07/10/07
I got NO sleep, because every time any elevator passes ANY floor, the elevator bell on each floor goes "DING!" And with a night club on the TOP floor, the elvators run constantly until 2:00 AM, then beginning at 6:00 AM. If you stay here, stay AWAY from any room remotely close to the elevators. And when I asked for my money back (as it was guarenteed), I was pushed off for two months until I finally gave up. I was halfway through a 550 mile bike ride from Richmond, VA to Lexington, KY and had planned to remain in Charleston a whole day to rest. The night was so bad, I got up the next morning (after 2 hours of decent sleep) and rode away.

Totally Bad Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/05/07
First of all, I would like to say that all the staff I spoke with were smiling and helpful. That was the high point of our visit. We were there for three nights(because there was a convention in town and no where else to stay)in the middle of June. Got stuck on the elevators EVERY DAY. The elevators would travel up and down from the 12th floor to the first, but the doors would not open at the floors. You could hear the alarm bells in the elevators ringing all hours of the day and night where people were getting stuck. The room was not clean, there was broken glass on the carpet when we first came in. My sister had the repairman to her room every day to work on the air conditioner because it didn't work (90 degrees outside). We reserved a room with two double beds (reservations were made six months ahead of time). When we got there, they put my husband and I and our two teenage daughters in a room with one King Size bed, because "that was all they had available". There was no kind of continental breakfast available at all, and the prices in the hotel restaurant were horrendous: Almost $4 for a bagel and cream cheese or a bowl of cold cereal. I travel quite a bit and I have stayed in many Holiday Inns in many places over the years, and this is not what I have come to expect of them. This was not a Holiday Inn Express, but advertised as an upscale hotel. I can't ever remember having a worse experience at any hotel I have ever stayed at. I will never go back here.

Bad Choice Dirty Room
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/03/07
I recently stayed here and was appalled at the dirtiness of this hotel. It's website of course eludes otherwise and I was snookered. I arrived later in the evening and was too tired or else I would have left. The guest room had huge black stains on the furniture and carpeting. The bed clothing was frayed and tattered. Amazingly, the hotel was booked and I thought I was getting a king-size bed room but they said I had to take a double queen-size room. I took a sleeping pill because otherwise I was too horrified to sleep there but too tired to leave. It was a bad experience.

Never Again.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/15/07
Our stay at this Holiday Inn was very disappointing. Never before have we been to such an awful Holiday Inn. First of all we made reservations and paid in advance for our rooms. When we got there we found out that they decided to let a teachers conference that was there stay a few days longer forcing my sister, brother-in-law, and their two teenage daughters to share a room with one bed and did not offer a discount or refund or do anything to make up for it. The elevators were not working properly. We got in and started up to our rooms - which were on the 8th floor - and the elevator just stopped. After a while the repair man was able to get it going again but when we stopped at our floor there was a six inch drop from the elevator to the actual floor. The repair man said that he'd been there working on them all day but they were old and needed to be replaced. I also fail to understand why after paying for reservations for a room we were told we had to pay extra everyday for parking in the Holiday Inn parking lot. If we weren't so far from home we would have turned around immediatly and cancelled our trip. We will never again stay here and we will recommend to all never to stay here either.

restaurant service is terrible
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/05/07
The bartender was rude and surly and very slow service and the pricing is very high for the quaility of food. The waitress was very nice and tried to make up for the bartenders attitude. It is too bad they allow him to work there. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT
