It Was Better Than I Expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/11
This place was fine for what you pay for. It is an old building and is in need of updating. The staff was very nice and responsive. You can't beat the location and it is cheap.

Run for the Hills, Smelly, Dirty Rooms.
By GAMM JAMMER, 7/6/11
This place sucks, $99.00 for a smelly room with 60's decor. Bar was closed on a Monday, the Front Desk could not even get a us a couple of Beers because there is no room service. Sink leaked, room doors slam shut throughout the night. Outside windows looking over the river were dirty and unwashed. This whole town which is the Capitol of West Virginia rolls up the sidewalks after 7pm. To be fair the bed was very comfortable but that's about it. Also NO Continental Breakfast, just an empty restaurant which we avoided like the plague.

Clean and comfortable room. Free wifi. Nice staff. 5 pages of free printing in the business center (perfect for boarding passes). Airport shuttle (call ahead for).

STAY AWAY!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/4/10
I booked thru Hotwire. I stay in hotels 5 days a week, every week. This one will hold $50 of your money in addition to your rate already paid. (for parking is what I was told). The bathtub was filthy, the noise was unbearable, the elevator didn't work, you cannot go down the stairs to the lobby, you must walk outside in the rain and around the building to get to the lobby. Security does not set foot in the parking garage. When we arrived to our room at 11pm there was a bum in the garage on the floor in his vomit and urine. Unsafe, unclean and unfair. Stay as far away from the Holiday Inn in Charleston, WV. as you can.

Frequent Traveler - Horrible Hotel
By lojack, 4/6/10
This place was absolutely horrible. From elevator noise to sup par staff to lack of cleanliness in the rooms. I'd avoid this place like the plague if I were you. Matter of fact, I'm coming back down there for business next week and am looking for hotels. I want to warn EVERYONE else.

I would not go back - Dirty Rooms
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/09
I stayed at the Charleston House this week and it was not clean. I had a non smoking room and it smelled like an ash tray. The linens smelled of tobacco. When I cheked in the carpet was not swept. I found makeup on one of the bed pillows and I found an empty gum container in the floor and a used bandaid. I will not stay here again. Recommend you find someplace else.

Avoid This Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/22/08
We arrived at 2 PM but were told to wait until 3 PM (check-in time). No rooms were clean at 3 PM and we were told to check back each half hour. At 4 PM, they began assigning rooms. We were told our reservation had been cancelled. I told them the date I had changed (not cancelled) the reservation and the name of the man who changed it but that didn't help. We had to talk to the manager who got us a room across town but the car event was on the street where Holiday Inn was located. We gave up and drove home. Very poorly run hotel. The only good thing is its location.

Totally Bad Experience
By Momma Kat, 7/5/07
First of all, I would like to say that all the staff I spoke with were smiling and helpful. That was the high point of our visit. We were there for three nights(because there was a convention in town and no where else to stay)in the middle of June. Got stuck on the elevators EVERY DAY. The elevators would travel up and down from the 12th floor to the first, but the doors would not open at the floors. You could hear the alarm bells in the elevators ringing all hours of the day and night where people were getting stuck. The room was not clean, there was broken glass on the carpet when we first came in. My sister had the repairman to her room every day to work on the air conditioner because it didn't work (90 degrees outside). We reserved a room with two double beds (reservations were made six months ahead of time). When we got there, they put my husband and I and our two teenage daughters in a room with one King Size bed, because "that was all they had available". There was no kind of continental breakfast available at all, and the prices in the hotel restaurant were horrendous: Almost $4 for a bagel and cream cheese or a bowl of cold cereal. I travel quite a bit and I have stayed in many Holiday Inns in many places over the years, and this is not what I have come to expect of them. This was not a Holiday Inn Express, but advertised as an upscale hotel. I can't ever remember having a worse experience at any hotel I have ever stayed at. I will never go back here.
