12 reviews for Washington Suites Alexandria, Alexandria
Had a very memorable time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/22/09
Nine members of our family were in DC to attend a Memorial Service for our cousin in Arlington Cemetery. We all stayed at the Washington Suites. Our suites were roomy and clean; the staff was friendly and helpful. The shuttle service to the Metro was great; we liked the free parking. We found the food in the hotel restaurant was surprisingly good; the staff stayed late one night to serve us when we arrived at closing time. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others. Everyone in our party was pleased with the accomodations and the service.

a good place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/27/08
My family stayed in this hotel for the memorial weekend and is very satisfied with it. Based on the discounted rate, it is beyond our expectation. The location is good, the shuttle to and from the metro station is very convinient and reliable. The one-bedroom suite is really spacious. The continental breakfast is good enough.

Well Worth It!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/05/08
We would definitely stay again. I did give some suggestions to the front desk about the staff needing to know about transportation to various sites in DC. The shuttle service was excellent and friendly. It was great having the extra space for our family of five to stay a week.

This place makes my skin crawl!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/19/07
I had to switch rooms because of lots of tiny cockroaches running all over my first room. This non-Smoking room smelled like an ashtray and had two beds instead of the single queen I had reserved. Also, my room did not have the ironing board or internet cable it was supposed to. I did have a broken telephone, broken lamp, scuffed up walls and dirty blankets with mysterious stains on them. Restaurant also allows smoking and I totally reaked of smoke after eating there. While the staff was very friendly and the rooms gigantic, the place is very inconvienent and not near desirable tourist areas like Old Town Alexandria. It is near to last stop on the blue line, which is can be accessed by waiting for their shuttle van to drive you there. OK, but not the best arrangement I have ever experienced. Overall, I could only recommend this for the real value shopper needing a lot of extra space. It made my skin crawl and I could not wait to checkout and go home.

EXCELLENT FAMILY VALUE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/07
I was travelling with my three children and husband last week and spent a night here at the alexandria location. It was spacious and comfortable: the tv was big enough for the kids to watch and enjoy; the suite reminded us of the "old country" hotels we stay at overseas: they are clean and spacious and the staff is very friendly. There were three computers with internet access for us to use and the breakkfast was accomodating. The hotel is not fancy but I will definitely stay there again because of its features and promximity to everything.

Will try another hotel next time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/31/07
The suite was large but the sofa bed looked and felt like it was 50 years old. Very uncomfortable to sleep on - we had 6 in our group. They only left 4 towels for 6 people and when I called for more they said I would have to come get them at the front desk. The restraunt was so smokey there was no way I could eat there. In fact the whole floor was smoked filled. The pool was fine and it was nice to have a laundry room. Overall, I would probably find a hotel in downtown Alexandria next time I visit. Cathy T

Understaffed!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/05/06
I made my reservation for my party of 6 because there aren't many affordable suites available. Next time, I'll bite the bullet and spend more for a closer location (even if it takes two rooms) Given it's distance of 4-5 Metro stops away from the Capital Mall, you would think this place would offer more to make up for the inconvenient location. Think again. While the staff we dealt with was plesant and help full, I thought the hotel was understaffed and housekeeping services was terrible. I called for three consecutive days to housekeeping for additional towels (they gave up 4 sets but we had 6 people). No answer or replys. Housekeeping also did not change our bed sheets even when we put the signs on the bed indicating we wanted new linens. While the shuttle drivers were courteous and responsive, they did not have more than two shuttles running to the Metro station during peak hours. We decided to walk back once rather than wait for 45 minutes for a 1 mile walk. While our suite was adequately clean, the balcony had a pile of cigarette butts which smelled. The exercise room only had two working machines out of 10 and no air conditioning, basically useless. The inhouse restaurant is combined with the bar, which is a smoker's paradise. Not a place for the kids to eat, although the food is good and reasonably priced. The Continental breakfast is ok, nothing to write home about. We never got a chance to use the pool because we always got back too late in the evening from sightseening. The Metro is quite crowded between 3 - 6 pm headed out to Alexandria. If I had to do this trip to DC over again, I would spend a little more for a location closer to the Capital Mall and save the daily travel time to an outlying location like this one, especially since The Washington Suites does not offer anything better than what you could find elsewhere.

great for a trip..
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/25/06
I stayed there this december and the hotel is nice.Rooms were clean and the staff was helpfull. There is a shuttle to metro station and malls, and this is great because they're very far away from hotel.I don't have any complaints about the hotel,so I can recommend you this hotel. But one thing to remember;if you're looking for luxury of course it's not the correct place, but if you just want a place you can be comfortable in..well that's it.

What a great place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/06
Our family of 6 had a wonderful stay here. When I was checking around before deciding on the Washington Suites I knew that I would have to have 2 rooms with their being 6 in our family. This was the only place that I could find that we could all stay in 1 room. We stayed in the 2 bedroom penthouse for only 10 dollars more then the reg. 2 bedroom. The difference in the 2 are a balcony and a sitting room with the 2 queen beds, so my husband and I took the 2 queens and we sent the kids to the king bed and the sofa bed. There are windows along the whole front of the suite which gave a wonderful view from the 9 floor. After checking other hotels I was glad that there is free parking and a great continental breakfast. The other hotels charged any where from 16 to 25 dollars a day for their parking and we had 2 cars, and I could not even think how much we saved from their free breakfast which we had a tray in the room so we could go down and get what we wanted and then come up and eat and read the free news paper looking out the windows before starting on our sight seeing in DC. Their shuttle service was great, we never had to wait more then 10 minutes for them to show up. But we did learn on our first day to wait until 9:30 to take the metro and then you can get an all day pass, they said because rush hour is over then. This is not a luxury hotel, no pillow top mattress and goose down comforters. This hotel is very practical and in every way met our needs. After reading some of the other reviews I was a little worried because I am a luxury hotel type of person. Yes this hotel is older, but they have done great job of making it comfortable. 2 bedrooms a sitting room, a living room, 2 bathrooms, 3 TV’s a dinning room table a desk and a full Kitchen and the baloney had sliding doors that went into the dinning room and the 2 queen bedroom. Free parking, Free breakfast, Free newspaper and a Free shuttle service to take you to the metro at the Van Dorn station or anywhere with in a two mile radius….. What more could you ask for. But please don’t be deceived by what the out side of the building looks likes. And I don’t think it was the safest of neighborhoods at night, but you feel very safe inside. Anyone with a family, this is the place to stay. Also, if you are tired of walking, take a tour bus, it cost 32 a person and was well worth it, we took a air-conditioned tour bus and they came to pick us up at the hotel in a van, just make sure when you are calling around to ask if the person giving the tour speaks clear English, although we could understand him most of the time and got the jest of what he was saying, it would have been nice to have a clearer speaker. The staff was very friendly and on our last day my son missed breakfast by 5 minutes, I went to the front desk and they sent us on our way with a little bag with yogurt and pastries.

Depends on US GOV contracts and show.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/12/06
They have a lot of military people coming in and give a good price to them. However like most groups depending on Gov contracts, they depend on cheap instead of excellence. My room had a balcony with 3 chairs. However, the sliding glass door had been bolted almost closed. The resulting gap let the cold wind howl through. When I called down to get it fixed, I was told that the door could not be opened since people would go out on the balcony to smoke and throw butts off it. The butts would land on the cloth awning. I finally got someone up to bolt it completely closed. The room had typical furniture; not great but, functional. It also had a double bed, 1 phone & 1 TV facing the couch. Neither the phone nor TV can be seen from the bed. The TV channels cannot be seen when you use the remote, so you never know what # which channel is.
