Econo Lodge Airport, Norfolk

I travel quite a bit and don't have unrealistic expectations when it comes to budget hotels. However, I can't honestly provide any good feedback for this place. The area around the hotel feels unsafe. The check-in process took way too long and was way too manual. The place is run down from the outside and is worse on the inside. The room smelled so strongly of deodorizer/ air freshener that it was almost hard to breathe (I can only imagine what they were trying to cover up). I'm guessing the dead bug on the night stand might have been overcome from the fumes. Overall - it was just plain gross. Never again for me in an Econo Logde.

Good for basic, overnight "flyout" utility accomodation but lacks flexibility business travellers & families often need. Great location if flying, very close to the airport with a car rental lot next door. Somewhat distant from shopping & night-life. Flower garden park nearby. Ample parking. Clean room/bath. TV worked (dead remote). Desk clerk seemed challenged by my check-in, taking +20 minutes. Hi-speed INTERNET did not work. Continental Breakfast was an empty coffee pot in the lobby with a Wonder Bread loaf sitting next to toaster. No a/c. Needing weekend accomodation for 2, booked 2 rooms for 2 nights but called 1 day in advance to cancel 1 room & reduce my stay to one night. Despite on-line acknowledgement, change request was lost and my colleague was charged a 2-night "no show". 60 days later, still fighting with hotel mgt over charge.

It was fair. Clean enough, but noisy and the furniture, etc. was pretty low grade. I don't think I'd choose it again. The man at the desk was very nice, though.

I enjoyed my stay. Everyone was helpful and made me feel welcome.
