Salem Waterfront Hotel, Salem

Family stay for Halloween second year in a row here. 9 of us Adults decide to go down to the lounge for a cocktail mid evening. Intent was to enjoy a patio beverage before hitting the town. Only to be told the patio was full, while there were many tables open and empty. The staff was rude and directed us to the manager. I inquired at the bar. Another guest asked why we couldn't sit on the patio while is had plenty of room. The bartender got very offensive with me and shoved a drink in my face saying, "Take this on the house and STOP discussing this with other guests, its being handled" We get our 1 cocktail as intended, move out to the patio where other customers were sitting and entering. NONE of them were asked to remove themselves...but we were. This is a group of Adults that are Medical professionals, and Military retiree's of 20 years+ and there children. We were not a group of youngsters out to paint the town with irresponsible behavior. Only to have one of the woman in our group, Shovel by a manager because she accidentally went through a wrong door upon exiting. My family member who was "Shoved" was upset and said.."don't touch me". The female manager then yelled she was calling the police on us all. Other guest's witnessing this all agreed the Staff was way off base here. I understand it is very busy at all establishments on Halloween. This does NOT give staff the right to treat paying customers who are guests at there hotel for the weekend the right to treat people in such a manor. We went about out evening and upon return my Brother in law asked again, when he saw people on the patio, why were we asked to leave when we were there earlier and it was NOT full. Response?? THEY CALLED THE POLICE ON HIM. He is a 20+ year retired Navy Chief. I believe he know's how to act accordingly...and was treated like a villain. Nothing came of the police coming. I would NOT RECOMMEND this be the place to celebrate your daughter's 20th birthday being born on Halloween.

I loved the location and size of the rooms. we stayed at The Hawthorne the night before in a room smaller than a closet. for only $20 more, we had a huge room with a king size bed and dry bar. will definitely book for next October.

Great place for kids who liked the pool. It was cold out but the pool is warm and indoors. We visited the Witch Museum and other attractions in Salem then got the kids worn out with a nice long swim. I should also note how friendly the staff was to all of us. Breakfast was also great—far superior to the buffet food I usually get on business trips.

We stayed with a very large party mid week. Upon check in to the tech suite we found used condom wrappers and a half full jar of vaseline, and none of the technical amenities worked. We complained to the front desk, and our concerns were not addressed. After check out we were charged an additional $100 cleaning fee for "stains" that were present in the room when we checked in. The charges were not removed upon our complaint to the hotel manager. We expected a much more gracious stay with a large party, and instead we felt screwed. We will never stay in this hotel ever again, and neither will our friends or family. The staff was completely unhelpful to making our stay everything we had been promised. Please avoid such a situation, and avoid being taking advantage of, don't waste your time or money.

I heard they're looking for a new chef, what's with that? Lots of turn around of staff, there. not a good sign....

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. The hotel was excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was clean and attractive. Front desk staff was great! Any question we had they found us the information quickly and with a smile. They helped my husband find a restaurant for our anniversary, including phone number and address. Loved this hotel. Even though the hotel restaurant seated us quickly, the menu is limited and didnt seem to be as upscale as the hotel. The only downfall we experienced was the parking. Even though the parking is free, the spaces are limited. When we got there only a couple spaces were available. We didnt move our car whole weekend because we were afraid there wouldn't be a space when we got back. Other than that, great experience. We will definately stay there if we go back!!

Don't listen to anyone who doesn't like it, It is the nicest hotel you will ever stay at. The staff is pleasant and the food at the pub is amazing!

Salem offers few hotel choices. There are plenty of B&B's but not hotels. This is the best which is not saying much. The price was a little steep for what is offered. The front desk and reservation staff are atrocious. The room on the other hand was reasonably pleasant. WiFi was good. The room was a little small but elegantly furnished. I would have preferred a flat screen TV to the older model in a hotel which prides itself on being new. The location is one of its best qualities; being in the heart of everything. The bar staff were friendly. The restaurant is tiny. Since this was our second trip there with the same results, I would not go back. They have not improved since our last visit a year ago. Good luck however finding something else. The area itself is lacking in good hotels.

It is defenetly my place. I noticed this hotel 3-4 years ago during Helloween night at Salem. I thought right away that it could be a great place to relax after busy weeks in Boston. Today it is my #1 destanation during the weekends. I love the fact that hotel located in historic part of Salem and it is close to everything.

This hotel charged my credit card 3 times in one month for a room I never stayed in! in took almost 4 weeks to get anyone there to help me. now almost 4 months later they are at it again. The mangement there does not return messages and the staff could care less. Now I am bouncing checks because of this place.
