Questions --- going to Dreams this weekend
Do all 1st floor rooms have a patio and higher floors have balconies? Are the balconies private, as in walled off from the sides?

Would go back in a heartbeat!
By ,
My best friend and I went for her 40th birthday an had just the most absolute best time!! The staff from the front desk to the bartenders to housekeeping were so friendly and just did anything to help you or keep you happy! The food was awesome and enjoyed the nightly entertainment and disco also. I cannot believe some of the reviews that I have read on this resort, because we experienced nothing but "A" type service and got every bit of our moneys worth. :)

Spent 4 days at the resort for a wedding. Room was gross smelled like mold the sheets always felt wet. Air conditioner barely worked. Minibar frig did not work at all. Phone did not work. Showered with cold water more than once. TV had terrible reception. Our "tropical view" was a walk way for all the help. Woke up to a beautiful view of a cart with 50 cases of bottled water on it every morning. Never got to sit on our patio. The food was marginal at best. Same thing over and over. The wedding was preformed in the afternoon with the sun directly beating down on the poor bride and bridesmaids causing them to all sweat profusely. Would have thought the "wedding planner" knew where the sun was at that time of day. The ceremony was a joke couldn't understand a word the woman preforming the ceremony said. She forgot to have the bride recite her vows and forgot about the rings all together. Not professional at all! The photographer was outstanding though. This is a very poorly run hotel. We spent a lot of money and we were very disappointed. Would not recommend this place to anyone! Go somewhere else!!!

absolute \"Dreamy\" vacation
By ,
We were at Dreams Punta Cana recently for our 25th wedding anniversary and were treated very very well. Our room (Junior Suite) was absolutely beautiful with private balcony, jacuzzi on the balcony, very clean, spacious and the king size bed was extremely comfortable. I cannot say anything negative about the trip except the nightly dancing catered primarily to the disco, which was a little disappointing (would like to see more variety in dance music). The food was absolutely amazing with so much variety. The staff was exceptional and very friendly--treated everyone like kings and queens. Lots of daytime activities and so many excursions from which you can choose. We will definitely be going back and will highly recommend this resort to all our friends.

\"Holiday Inn meet Golden Corral\"
By ,
Arrived to a very breezy lobby and lots of smiling faces. Our check in went smooth but then we were ushered to the "VIP desk" where a beautiful girl who spoke little English tried to explain their resort coupon scam (ie., dinner on the beach is $200 but with this coupon its only $120, $10 off a $75 dollar bottle of $9 Penfolds, ect..). She then led us around pointing out several facets of the lobby and gift shop before handing us off to the time share pitch man who wanted us to attend a meeting where we would be helped to appreciate the value of a $10,000 vacation condo there in Punta Cana. Ugggghhh - off to the room. Immediate mildew stench hit us in the face (which we got used to by day 3). Furniture was beaten and broken, bed squeaked and moved easily with little motion. Bathroom had mold/mildew everywhere and soap/washcloth bar was falling out of the wall. When taking a shower water goes everywhere and filled bathroom floor. Vents in the bathroom connect to adjacent bathroom so we could literally hear whether our neighbor was going #1 or #2 - nasty! 3 out of 7 nights we were awakened between 1-4am to the sound of yelling, laughing, and outright profane speaking "African Americans" who invaded the place for a wedding. Called the front desk 4 TIMES during our stay to complain, was promised they would send security, which never happened. I truly felt like pulling a fire alarm one night. That was probably the most disgusting experience of the week. The fridge in the room was well stocked for the first 4 days, then the rest of the trip was never restocked. 1/2 the TV channels were fuzzy and 4 out of 25 channels had spoken English. Pools were heavily chlorinated which I would rather have than the STD's. Naked children were allowed into pools - yuck. Pool common areas were always packed full of people. The Beach SEAWEED was overpowering. I know this isnt the fault of the mgmt but...Jesus.....it is the reason I will always look to reviews like this in deciding the beach I am going to drop $2500+ to sit on. The free ocean gear was wither nasty or broken and heavy duty equipment operated ALL DAY EVERY DAY directly adjacent to the beach at the community recycling plant. The constant backup beeping 6+ hours a day - OMG is this for real? The drinks were ok - nothing top shelf. The FOOD was 5 out of 10 stars. It doesn't matter which "gourmet" restaurant you dine at, its the same ingredients - cooked in the same kitchen. Eat Mexican and get a burrito covered in cheese sauce.....eat Italian and get lasagne covered in cheese sauce..... heavily salted, tough meats, desserts tasted like they came from Kroger. Slow drink service - we would usually receive our drinks in small thin glasses around the time we were halfway through our meals. If it weren't for the coffee shop (high quality espresso, cool air conditioning, never crowded despite the max occupancy), perfect weather, and great friends we were with, I would have wanted to come home in 3 days. But once on the beach, in your chair, under a palm tree, with the sun shining and breeze blowing, while blocking out the sound of that freaking beeping front end loader, and eyes closed so as not to see the nasty seaweed, it was nice.

Good and bad....
By ,
The resort was very nice, but not as luxurious as described to me... but I didn't have too huge of a problem with that. The room was nice and in good condition and everything worked okay with the exception of the bathroom fan which was never fixed despite me asking for it to be. The grounds were very beautiful and the beach was nice as well, but the reef and rocks were tricky so you had to be careful where you swam. The staff was very nice and helpful and I had no complaints about that. The nightlife was fun, but after seven days it got old but that isn't the resorts fault necessarily. The bad..... I've been sick the past three days with nausea and a fever, and judging on some conversations I had with some other travelers and a good deal of the reviews on here, I'm guessing I have some type of food poisoning. I'm not deathly ill, but I don't feel well and the symptoms certainly fit the bill. On that note, the food is pretty bad. It is so hot there, and nothing that should be cold or kept cool is that which will cause problems (obviously). The interesting thing is that, in my opinion, the best restaurant was the buffet (and I NEVER go to buffets) and even that wasn't anything exceptional. I didn't eat there until over half way through my trip, and interestingly enough that is when I started getting ill. I'm also wondering if the water they pour you at the restaurants is tap or bottled... my guess is that it isn't bottled water. Anyhow, the trip was a good deal and I had a pretty good time. Just beware that if you are researching vacation spots that illness is apparently rampant upon visiting this place.

serious concern over food safety...be very aware!
By ,
my husband and I returned last week from Dreams Punta Cana, we went with a group of about 30 for a wedding. The day after we reurned my husband became very ill. Severe cramping and diarrhea. He went to the hospital, was put on medication including an antibiotic. A stool sample was done and we got the report today from public health that it was "Salmonella" poisoning. My brother in laws girlfriend also was seriously ill, requiring iv fluids, meds. etc. when we returned home. 3 other members of our group were also ill, one is in hospital today being checked. We loved our trip and the resort but I am sick to think about the cleanilness and care in food preparation. All guests are made to sanatize their hands as they enter the food areas with the hand sanatizer..........however its clear the same care is not taken by the staff preparing the food. An example of that it when I was on the beach one day I went to the grill area to get a hamburger. They use fresh hamburger meat. the guy at the grill was laying raw hamburgers on the grill to cook, the gloves he was wearing were covered in blood from the hamburger meat......the cooked burgers were on the oppsite side of the grill .....he then took my order and passed me a burger on a bun that he put together with the bloody gloves still on and blood was all over the top and bottom of the burger he passed me.......shocked I threw it in the garbage but there was little I could say because he did not speak english....., now imagine what can't be seen when there are preparing food and my husbands illness which he has missed work for and is still suffering from 6 days later is evidence that this is a serious problem here. There were a lot of families with small children at the resort and I have two little ones myself (did not travel with us) so I pass this on with great concern.

lovely safe hotel friendly staff
By ,
I stayed 1 week with friends at this hotel. After reading one of the reviews I couldn't believe what I have read. There are no security guards with guns, I saw no spiders of any sort and the staff were more than friendly and helpful. I had the pleasure of meeting the manager Randolf Decena and he was very helpful, professional and friendly. The night club within the hotel was safe and played great music of all types. you could also give the DJ requests. There were people of all ages there from 20 year olds to the daring energtic 60 year olds. The only thing about the place is the tipping. I don't come from a tipping culture - but I felt you have to tip for everything, and i coudln't find anywhere to change up the money into dollar bills which one of been helpful. I would recommend getting your money changed up before arrival. However, I think all places / resourts in the Carribean are like that for they tailor to the Amercian market. Once a week there are guys on the resort offering to sell you things but a quick no thanks and they leave you be. about a 10 min walk up the beach there is another market that sell jewellery and paintings as well. We booked 2 day trips - the boat ride on the catamarang and the Safari were both excellent. They have like 9 restaurants and we did not need a reservation at any time - and we were booking for groups of 4 - 15 people. You can even go into the world Cafe before 2am and get pizza which was the best pizza ever. We didn't get sick at all and the food was excellent, especially the Chinese and the Steak house. The rooms were cleaned on a daily basis and sometimes with little pretty touches such as flowers on the bed, or around the sink in the bathroom. You were also given Slippers and full size bath robe, the room had Plenty of towels, and a nice basket filled with Shampoo, toothbrushes, soaps, razors, toothpaste etc. etc. The mini bar was always stocked and the maid would drop back chocolates to us in the evening. The hotel is very very clean and bug free. They are even certified to be Bed Bug free. It is about a 30 - 45 min drive from the airport which means you couldn't go for a stroll into a town or village. The staff work very hard there to make your stay most enjoyable. In our rooms we often left out Cash and jewellery (forgot to lock the safe) and none of it was touched. They provide a free safe for your valuables. They have entertainment everynight I enjoyed watching the Salsa dancing, and the lady gaga, madonna, beyonce etc. impersonations. the costumes they wore were brilliant and very creative. The have a wide selection of spirits and beer, I don't even drink beer but their Presidente beer is excellent! The pools were always cleaned and very spacious. The beach is beautiful, and there were all sorts of BBQs within a few meters to get burgers. There was always a waitress going around offering to get you drinks. There are plenty of sun beds. They even have a Towel center and someone went around and collected then at the end of the day. Overall it was a relaxing comfortable experience with good food, good drinks & cocktails and the most friendliest hospitable people ever. You literally don't have to lift a finger while you are there.

Dreams? Certainly a good dream!!!
By ,
I just returned from Dreams after traveling with my family group of 22. 10 of us had "intestinal issues" caused by the food. Our group started with an extended wait for our rooms. My room was supposed to be two rooms next to each other with a pass through door. After a two hour wait for keys, I spent another hour trying to get someone to open the door between the rooms. In the end no key was found. They forced the lock and stuffed the locking plate with toilet paper to keep it from locking again. The property was a gauntlet of people trying to sell you things... "artwork", stays at resorts that were opening shortly, full day excursions, etc. The resort cuts corners on cheap silly things.... they have 7 kayaks, but only have paddles for 3. They have a batting cage, but only one adult bat that was so heavy that Barry Bonds could not have swung it, let alone the kids. Never have towels at pool, etc., etc. Staff as a whole was not unpleasant, but there was clearly no one going the extra mile. Communication with English speakers was an issue for many of the staff. If you wanted a kayak, you had to drag it 25 yards down the beach to the water. A Hobie Cat was never rigged unless someone stood there and waited for them to do it. Two other Hobies were never rigged at all, even if there were people waiting to sail. The only staff member at the kids Core Zone would be willing to help out…. if you could manage to track him down and ask. Food didn't taste bad (other than getting many of us sick). However, going to any restaurant other than the main buffet makes no sense... essentially all of the food appears to be made (and also served) at the main buffet then transported to the other restaurants. As a result, we had waits of close to two hours s at every restaurant we tried. On departure the front desk would not allow me to check out (or release my luggage) because there was a charge on my room that was not mine. They agreed that the charge slip had someone else's signature on it, but since my room # had been written on it, I had to pay. An airport shuttle was waiting full of people from our resort and others. After 25 minutes (and my flight time getting uncomfortably close) I raised my voice and demanded that they release my luggage (no profanity, just loud). The manager, Carlos, finally appeared flanked by large security people. He did not ask what the problem was (or really care). I extended my hand to shake his hand and he refused to take my handshake. He got directly in my face and said "why are you raising your voice to my staff".... I always assumed that in a service industry you determine the issue before accosting a guest. It took another 10 minutes, but he eventually agreed that I should not have to pay a charge that was clearly not mine (gee thanks!) and released my luggage. We boarded our plane less than 10 minutes after clearing security. My guess is that the other people on the delayed shuttle that had flights leaving 30 minutes before ours probably missed their flights. My issues were echoed by essentially all of our party of 22.... so do yourself a favor and skip Dreams. There are certainly better places out there.
