Fantastic Vacation
By tc, 10/8/11
This is a beautiful resort. We had a wonderful experience all the way around. The food was delicious, drinks plentiful and fun, service great, and everything was very, very clean - pools, rooms, walkways - people even scrubbing the rock walls. Our junior suite was very nice and refrigerator stocked with water, soda, and beer. Go to the spa!! Many wonderful things were included in the package, but get extra services. We had massages and reflexology and felt treated like royalty - very pampered! Easy transportation to Play del Carmen from the Lindo ($5/person each way) right to shopping, bars, restaurants. We used TrafficTours and they were very helpful and always very prompt with pickups. Went to Tulum and Xel Ha which were both beautiful and a really good deal through the tour company. Take your own hair dryer! They are provided in the rooms, but do not work well and we had lots of laughs about how low to the floor they are to where the hose won't reach to dry your hair. Perfect vacation - I can't wait to go back!!

Keep anything of value in the safe
By Delson, 10/8/10
This was our second time to this resort, had a great time however we had a cell phone stolen from our room. Make sure you lock up anything of value before you leave. You would be surprised to know how many employees have access to your room with a pass key and enter when you are not there.

AWESOME PLACE!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/23/10
This is our 2nd time there and we enjoyed every day of our trip. The staff is great and really take care of you. We took our 3 kids, 9 mos, 10, and 14. The loved it. The baby really enjoyed the lazy river, our other 2 the wave pool and the beach was great. If you want to get spoiled, this is the place to go.

The ABSOLUTE BEST! CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK
By Queen, 8/9/10
The Maya was everything we hoped for an then some. All the staff was wonderful, cheerful and quite funny! We took our 2 15yr olds and we all fell in love with this place & can't imagine anywhere better. We had 2 jr suites - stocked mini bar, free room service all night. Beautiful pool, close to ocean. We were so spoiled & for once the hotel staff truly acted as if they were happy to have us there. You want a perfect vacation....this is it! We swam w/dolphins and it was beyond words! Pirate Captain hook cruise really sucked unless you were looking to pick up a one night stand - NOT a family trip! Our funjet trip rep tried to warn us but we went anyway....will listen from now on! Food no matter where you ate was delicious! AND the banana daquiries were so yummy I wish I had gotten the recipe!

Won't Be Going Back
By Michael, 8/1/09
The Maya is very pretty to look at. But the Front Desk is not helpful, except for the Manager and one other genteman. The rest were hostile. Some of the pool side staff was the same - very helpful or extremely hostile. Tipping seems to sweeten everyone's attitude. I liked the steak and Japanese. The seafood was fair. And the Italian was horrible. The Lindo is really where the shows are and is much nicer looking. The balconies were not as nice. The concierge was also fair and slow. Room service was slow - up to 1 hour. The tour people were hostile as well, but are not part of hotel staff. Once they got our money they were extremely unhelpful. The Paraiso shopping was very expensive and the hotel gauges you on the exchange rate. In Playa we got up to 14 pesos per dollar. Hotel was 12. We found that going into Playa Del Carmen was much cheaper. If you take tours don't go to the new theme park Xplore. It has 4 things to do. Best to go to the others which are more developed. Also took my daughter to swim with dolphins. I had hoped to watch and take pictures, but they make it difficult as they take the photos and sell them to you for $20 per. They will bargain slightly. I got 3 for $45. They make you watch from outside the pools where the view is behind the action. I do recommend horseback riding. There is currently only a small ranch about an hour. The owner's name is Miguel and is very nice. The trail is a bt slow and rocky, but the horses are well mannered and the owner is very accomodating. Last time we went to Mexico we were in Cancun and I think it was more friendly and easier to get around.

Security poor and front desk not helpful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/09
While the resort was beautiful and most of the staff wonderful, I would not say the hotel was very secure. The safe on my room was broken into while I was at dinner with family. When I went to the front desk for help they not only did nothing to to help me but accused the incident of being completely my fault. They were also hostile when I asked to get the local police involved. The front desk was also unhelpful when my parents asked to get a room with a king bed on the same price level. I would only recommend this hotel if you do not plan on bringing anything of value with you since there are many of similar or better resorts on riviera maya.

Second Time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/13/08
This was our second stay at the Paraiso Maya. We had a great time. It's nice to see the same staff when you return. The ONLY disappointment was they did away with the shuttle service to down town. It makes it very difficult to get there as the cost is 20.00 US each way.

We're going back this year!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/7/08
We took our 18 year old son to this resort as a graduation gift. A time for just the 3 of us to spend time together before he went off to college. We went the last week of June in 2006. Everything was so amazing that we vowed to go back and we are this May! I can't wait! As for the people who say they were not satisfied with this resort or for the people who are reading this to decide whether or not to stay there....if you don't like buffet food where you live, you're not going to like it anywhere. We thought the buffet was great! We ate breakfast and lunch there everyday! They made eggs to our order and were happy to do anything we asked. We really enjoyed the mall--We went to Playa Del Carmen twice and didn't buy anything--we bought all of our souveniers at the mall. I did find the children running around a little annoying, but that's the parents fault, not the resorts. I couldn't believe the people who were sitting out in the hot sun with newborns!(Stupid) I was happy to see that they stuck to their "no children" policy in the "reservation only" restaurants.
