Bay View Hotel Bed and Breakfast, Aptos

From start to finish our stay at the Bay View Hotel was a total disaster. My boyfriend had really wanted to stay at the hotel because he had previously eaten at the restaurant when visiting family in Aptos and was enthralled with the history of the hotel. He was also eager because of the hotel supposedly being haunted by ghosts. I called to make a reservation, but was told that the person who scheduled reservations was not there and to call back later. After calling four times I angrily gave up and booked another hotel. My boyfriend being stubborn called one more time and finally got a hold of someone and made a reservation and so we canceled the other hotel. When we arrived at the hotel on the date of our reservation, we arrived an hour before check in time and were told to come back around 4. We arrived back to the hotel at 4:20 and were told that towels had to be put in our room so we should wait a minute in the bar. It took them ½ an hour before we were finally escorted up to our room. First thing we noticed was that the chandelier with three lights had only one working and was covered with cobwebs. There was dust everywhere with an overly crowed room. I bent down to take off my shoes and saw that the couch was broken and was literally being held up by soup cans. Later on we went down for dinner and found that the restaurant was greatly understaffed for the attendance and they kept forgetting to get customers what they asked for and the food was not that great, especially for the prices. We went out for a bit and came back to the hotel at which time I decided to take a shower. I found hair in the shower, and the shower was broken and didn’t work properly. There was also only cold water. I passed on the shower and we decided to go to bed around 11:30, but when we pulled back the covers we found hair in the bed and were completely disgusted so we slept on top fully clothed. Soon after we went to bed the women in the room across from us started loudly singing that the ghosts were coming and etc. The singing went on for a while. Then they started vacuuming down stairs, which we could loudly hear in our room. Since we were unable to sleep we began to read reviews of the hotel on different sites and all of them seemed like what we had experienced, or worse. We read that people who confronted the owner often did not get the results they wanted so we decided to just pay and take it as a learning experience. We skipped out on breakfast the next day, which seemed to upset the owner. We had thought that that would be the end of the hellish hotel but when we returned I realized that I had been charged for two nights at the hotel, once through the hotel and once through the restaurant. I called and the second charge was canceled. This was a horrendous experience and I recommend DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

The staff was great, but the waiter was a pervert, he looked down my shirt!!! Best stay ever

This a very beautiful european famliy run bussiness .the jazz band on the weekend was wounderful .and the famliy treatede me like i was one of my own .cant wait to come back .they had a great garden in the back with wood fire pizza oven

THIS PLACE WAS AMITYVILLE MEETS RAGO. Please save your money and your time and stay somewhere else. This was worse then getting my spleen removed.

Was put off by the manager/owner and when asked for return on advance payment was ignored to the point of having to file suit.

I found the accommodations to be comfortable and well done with tasteful decor. The beds are remarkable. (I was there two nights and had two different rooms because of a plumbing problem in my first room.) The restaurant is excellent and the breakfast was tasty and promptly served. The coffee was fresh and flavorful, as one would expect that close to San Francisco. No Maxwell House poured there! I found the staff to be delightful and helpful and Christina a most gracious host. I was in Aptos on business but look forward to going back with my lady to spend a pleasureable weekend at the BayView. I do wish there was a more reliable WiFi connection available but I was assured that the establishment of such a network is in the planning stages. For now, if you need a connection, ask for a room within the range of the WiFi signal of the coffee shop next door.

We had to wait a full 25 minutes,standing in the hall, before we could even check in. The room was vastly overpriced at $229.00. Everything seemed done on the cheap: bed linens, towels, hangers (wire). The included breakfast was meager. The coffee was almost cold. When we pointed this out, the waitperson didn't even apologize. I had to complain about loud music downstairs two nights running. The third night, we packed up and left at one in the morning, having had a particularly ugly encounter with the owner. A deputy sherrif stood guard to assure our safe exit. I am not making any of this up! It was an appalling experience!

We stayed here before the owners changed and had a great time. When we stayed last month it was so bad, we couldn't believe it! The owner couldn't find our reservations. Then, when she showed us to our room we followed her as she dragged a full bag of leaking garbage behind her. (Ughs, Bumping and spilling up the stairs.) Then the room was so bad. Old ratty bathrobes and towels. We didnt even want to touch them. The doilies under the glasses were also yellowing and old. The bed was lumpy, the tv didnt work. Then, when we went downstairs to eat breakfast in the am, nobody was downstairs or in the restaurant, so we had to call the hotel from our cell phone. Terrible... We should have just left but we already paid for it...
