The Guest Does Not Come First
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/8/11
I was up visiting my husband who is in the oil field in Williston. I found out quickly that there is not much to choose from when trying to book a motel room as it is so busy with the boom going on. My first impression was very positive as the lady that I talked with on the phone for my reservation was very helpful, spoke clear english, and put me on her personal waiting list for the date that I wanted, as it was sold out. However, she went the extra mile and called me when an opening came up for the week I needed to visited my husband. Check in was great as the young man was very polite and fun to make small talk with. It went downhill after I got to my room on the second floor: first there is no elevator, second there was a strong smell of smoke right away as you came up the stairs, third my alarm clock didn't work, but the young lady took care of that right away at the front desk. Room was fairly clean. What happened after I checked out and was looking at my credit card online is what made me hate this place. I was charged wrong for my stay and what I was quoted, my husband works for a huge corporation and has stayed there many times and so has his coworkers, however, I was not given respect from the Manager when I findy got ahold of her. Frankie is her name, I thought it was a man at first, I was given the run around many times, she did not return my calls for a long time until I must have got a new employee who put me straight through to her. She was rude, not accommodating to how much business my husband's company brings that way. When the other new hotels are built and ready for business we will be going there along with his company's business. we have no time for that kind of treatment for the huge amount we have paid out and the company was paying out to the Marquis. I would like to know who owns the place because it is not being run correctly, and if the oil boom goes down Frankie will not have very many loyal or wanting to give her business. We are not the only ones. Again staff was very polite that I came in contact with...Frankie the manager was not anyone I want to deal with or come in contact with again. Already have rooms booked at the new Microtel and Homstay.

Marquis.. for the huge amount per night... when the pool was down and the business center house computer and printer down too... no thanks... Oh and watch them on the sign in paper... there is a thing called SAFE FEE 's a $1.50 per night. if you don't catch it they will charge you whether you used it or not.. VERY SNEAKY!!! and smokey smelling on the 2nd floor.?? I thought it was a smoke-free building .so they say... but up by room 214 it stinks of smoke!!!!

Feel like getting used for your money?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/2/11
The rooms are fairly decent and this hotel is probably one of the newer hotels in williston, however how rude the staff is makes me want to warn others. I had booked a 4 day stay, but could not arrive the first night due to the highway being closed because of a blizzard. apparently no one cares about guests not being able to make it there. i was told i would still be charged full price because i did not call 48 hours before my arrival time. (to the rude manager frankie) if i would have known there would be freezing rain the day before i was supposed to arrive i wouldnt have booked the room for that day two months ago! i was told they would have to cancel my whole reservation for all four days so they could sell it to "someone who actually needs the room" . even after i told the manager that i could make it for the last 3 nights of my reservation i was told i could not get my room. if you want to be used for your money, stay here.

Used to work here. PLEASE READ.
By Blank, 6/17/10
I used to work at Marquis Plaza and Suites. If you plan on making at trip to Williston you should plan months ahead, I can only remember one night out of the time I worked there, that we had an extra room. And I would say also, DO NOT make your reservation online, take a few minutes just to call and reserve your room with the hotel. Every week we would have two or three people come in saying they had reserved online and we didn't have them in the system. I never dealt with the online reservations so I'm not sure what the problem was or still is, apparently some reservations just didn't come through. I have no idea why so many reservations that were made online, never got into the system. Even if you call the company that you made the reservations through, there is nothing that can be done. The hotel never gave a discount for a stay in the future or anything to apologize for the huge mistake that I believe is completely the hotels fault. As for the cancellations, for your own sake, make sure to call at least 48 hour in advance, the manager will most definitely be charging you for the room if not cancelled 24 hours in advance, and she will not budge on that. Unless you had and absolute emergency, and sometimes that doesn't even work. I would also say that you should probably ask to speak to a manager or assistant manager when cancelling just to be sure that you will not be charged for the room. When it comes down to it, the manager is the one who decides if you will be charged for the room or not. This may be a hassle for them to do and they probably will try to handle it themselves but, you are the guest and it’s your money they want, so I would push to speak to the manager. The hotel itself is a nice place in my opinion, it’s definitely not the fancy hotel that they seem to think it is, it’s fairly average. The suites are nice but I have seen better for cheaper, maybe not in Williston. The prices are far to high in my taste, but so is ever other hotel in the town. If you do decide to stay at the Marquis Plaza and Suites, please take my advice on the reservations and cancellations, this will make your stay more hassle free.

No excuse for bad business!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/12/10
As you read reviews you notice it is difficult to get a room in Williston so there is no excuse for this story! Cannot believe the rudeness of this staff! This is a small town in ND smack in the middle of the oil boom. Williston hosts local racing on the w/ends..my son races. I booked three rooms at this location and found that the races had been canceled due to the weather on Friday, the reservations were for Saturday. I called as soon as I found out about the cancelation of the races, although it was after 4 as their policy states, to cancel the rooms I had reserved for my family. They declined to cancel them and told me that I would be charged. I asked how many other racing families they were doing this to and was told all of them...I then said if I had to pay for them I didn't want them re-rented and was told "oh no we will be re-renting them" so they were paid for several rooms twice, I understand policy however do not understand bad business especially in small town ND. They were aware of the cancelation earlier than I was. As stated they are in oil boom country and I am sure these rooms would have been re-rented within minutes of me canceling my reservations. I feel they took advantage of alot of people in this situation. Therefore will not be dealing with this hotel in the future because one never knows when an outdoor activity will be canceled, this is ND if you don't like the weather wait 10 minutes...it will change.

Beware...
By Wade Houg, 4/27/10
I would like to know how long you have to book a room in adance to get one that does't smell like a wet ashtray? Me room smelled realy bad! I don't like having to ask if I can use the pool! Try using an air freshner instead of covring everything with furnature polish!!!!

Horrible customer service!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/14/10
I was staying in Williston visiting a sick relative. After staying at Missouri Flats Inn for 2 days, I could not take the front desk staff's lack of care attitude and the manager's false accusations that my teenage boys were "destroying" "her" hotel. Impossible because they were under my supervision the whole time. The only time we were at the hotel was to sleep, not even during the day. So I decided to book a room elsewhere for the remainder of our stay in Williston. I thought to myself, thank God, finally a decent hotel...but when we were greeted by thoughtless and rude front desk clerks, I thought what is wrong with the hotels in Willston? To my surprise I discovered that this aweful lady manages both the Missouri Flats Inn AND the Marquis Plaza and Suites. What horrible service for such high prices! The "non-smoking room" was filled with the SMELL OF SMOKE! and the carpet looked like it had'nt been vacuumed in days!! The smoke alarm kept beeping because of a low battery and the staff would not come replace it or even give me a battery to do it myself! There was also no internet connection in my room as promised. I was told it depends on which room you have, not all of them get a connection...After staying there I just felt like I was used for my money.

will never stay again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/1/09
i liked that it was fairly clean and that it is one of the newer hotels in this town BUT the front desk person was eating crackers while he tried to help me find my room and he was acting like him helping me was a waste of his time. i did not enjoy the way the personel treated me at all. would not recommend to people that want a friendly stay. the rooms were not as nice as the say. there is some bad false advertising in this place. and just so everyone knows there is NO balcony in ANY room!

Watch your bill and don't try to cancel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/1/09
I had reserved a room at Marquis Plaza and Suites due to the Super 8 in Williston being filled with rowdy guests and in marginal condition. After talking to managment, the problems were solved over there so I called the Marquis to cancel my reservation. I missed the cancellation deadline by LESS THAN 1 HOUR and they would not budge. I even sent other employees from my business to them since every other place in town was booked solid, but they did not care. Management never returned my phone calls and the young lady at the front desk had a couldn't-care-less attitude the whole time. Every other hotel I've had to cancel a reservation at has been very easy to work with. After trying to reason with these folks, I finally gave up and paid the stupid rate. Once I got the statement, they charged me MORE than the reservation was for. I called about that, and they said it was their policy to charge the full room rate (no discounts) for a no-show. These folks are cut-throat and if you stay there, you'd better watch your bill and check it twice. And whatever you do, if you cancel a reservation, make sure you get it in writing. Geez!

What a great place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/27/09
I found this motel to be very clean, quiet and comfortable. I came in prior to checkin time and was treated very well and was given a room. The staff is friendly and helpful. We will definately make this our only place to stay while in Willston. Keep up the good work!
