We're about to stay at St Valery's for our third visit. What does that say for "customer satisfaction"? For all our visits, we've stayed at least two nights each time. The breakfasts are excellent (don't get the sausages, however, if you're American. But that applies to ANYPLACE in the UK!) Bacon, haggis, eggs, kippers, tomatoes, mushrooms: excellent. One draw-back: there is no lift, and if you have a room upstairs (and most of them are), it's a bit of a trick to get luggage there. The rooms are clean, atractively decorated, comfortable. Bathrooms are well-appointed. We've always had an en suite room, so I can't speak for the shared facilities. The staff is more than helpful; we've become friends with Charlie, the front desk man, who seems to ALWAYS be there (when does he sleep?) Incidentally, there are two pubs for light lunches or suppers that are within a block or two, but no really elegant restaurants, unless you want to walk to Princes Street. St. Valery's location at Coates Gardens is quite convenient to the Haymarket Train and Bus Station, and it's a relatively short (slightly uphill) walk from the station to the guest lodge. (Taxis are available.)To get to Princes Street it's a bit more of a walk (probably about a mile). Buses or taxis are probably recommended, especially in bad weather or at night.
