The Hotel Victoria was wonderful. It is a beautiful framework hotel with lovely large rooms and excellent service. I stayed in a room with a balcony. I would recommend staying in a room with a balcony facing the street since it holds a great view of the town and a crazy gnome fountain (which you just have to see to believe). The people go out of their way to help out a confused and tired traveller. The breakfast is charming. They serve a buffet style breakfast with coffee, tea, or juice. They offer an assortment of breads, sliced breakfast meats, cheese, cereals, and fruit. I didn't speak German when I visited and to my great relief the patient people of The Hotel Victoria took their time with me and spoke English. If you want to get away from all the stress and pressures of the big city then stay at the charming Hotel Victoria. The 'mascot' of the town is "Die Hexe" which is an old witch that flies around on a broom. Keep that in mind when you walk around the town. It is centrally located. You can walk to the forest in the Harz Mountains or enjoy the hot springs of Bad Harzburg. There are ruins of an old fortress atop one of the mountains. It is a short walk from the Hotel Victoria to the "Bergbahn" or cable-car that takes you to the ruins. I loved my stay at the Hotel Victoria and I would recommend it to anyone who is traveling to Bad Harzburg, Germany.
