Not as awful as expected
By ,
The hotel was kept clean and tidy by the army of cleaning staff. Found all staff to be extremely helpful and very pleasant and not in the least rude. The food though plentiful was a bit lacking but you could always find something to eat and the omelettes were freshly made, don't go for the 3min eggs they tend to come out chirping. The room was very spacious with an extremely large bed (approx 9'wide, no kiddin). Bathroom had seen better days, but it was passable, toiletries were always in place, towels always changed daily even had them arranged on the bed as 2 little ducks which was a nice little surprise (artistic cleaner). Only problem we had was the constant tipping. Everyone expects to be tipped which can be a bit annoying if not embarrassing (didn't understand why they just stood there at first). Worked out that we forked out about £30+ in tips alone which you don't realise until you sit down and start to count it out. The place itself is very nice, but I found the people outside the complex a bit intimidating. We stayed out of season - mid Feb '08 and there wasn't a lot going on, so going out in the evening was not on in my view, too risky a few shady characters about but that had nothing to do with the hotel which we found to be better than some of the reviews we had read and found unfounded. It's not a fantastic hotel, but comfortable and in need of a little TLC, so if you've booked this hotel please don't take too much notice of the reviews and wait and see for yourself and enjoy your experience.

Fab holiday!!!
By ,
Well, this is a brilliant hotel! Very luxurious and very child friendly should u hav kids!! Entertainment at night is good, although could be slightly more exciting! All staff are friendly and so helpful! The rooms are cleaned and changed daily, however on a few occasions we were only given one towel and had to use our own!!!! The food is very nice and there is a huge variety to choose from! The pool is huge and really nice as are the surroundings with the loungers etc. The only things which i didnt like was the location, its not very exciting outside the complex! I would not reccomend the turkish bath or sauna etc as they were horribly maintained, very old fashioned and actually rather dirty. I would definately go back here however! great stuff!!!!!

Single Stayer
By ,
I thought that the Tej Marhaba was excellent. Rooms are spacious, food varied and tasty. There are even freshly made pancakes and omelettes at breakfast. Freshly squeezed orange juice is available at an extra cost: the squash is not nice. Staff were most helpful and friendly, particularly waiters and restaurant folk - a fairly rare experience for a single traveller. Rooms overlooking the gardens are the best - not nice views from the back of the hotel. I agree that the place deserves a near 4 star status. Taxis into Sousse are cheap but the price needs negotiating before taking a journey. I would go back to the Tej Marhaba.

2 Weeks Might be too much
By ,
I stayed at the hotel for two weeks in late june, the rooms were lovely, in need of a little updating but generally ok for the time your actually in there, the showers a bit biased against tall people, me being 6ft had to do limbo evrytime i wanted a shower. The balcony space and view was perfect, over looking the pool and even the sea, but family rooms had a view of the road and a building site (not a loud building site though because belive me these people dont rush anything) The pool is always clean, the downside was that it was warm and u could even find urself sweating in it. Water polo is played in the day and takes over half of the pool for like half an hour. The resturant and reception area were always spotless with no faults whats so ever with cleaners working around the clock. Food was nice, you will always find something you like but it was nice to eat out from time to time to break it up a bit. The staff are always friendly and willing to help, they do kinda hang around for a bit looking for a tip, but so would i being on 83p an hour, but we found the best thing to do is tip from time to time and the other times just turn around. The entertainment within the hotel was on a weekly rota, so on your second week you will be seeing it all again, and believe me once is enough. The price of beer in the hotel and pretty much everywhere that you lucky to find a pint in is about 5dt which is about 2.30 so its no cheaper that the uk. They have taken out the mini bars in the rooms which was a bit dissapointing but saved me some money i guess. The indoor pool was ok, but you could tell that during the hot season they dont bother with it much. All in all it was a lovely holiday and the only reason that i have put the kinda review that i have is because i expected to much of this place because no one had mentioned it before and after 10 days I had done everything the hotel had to offer, ps do the camel rides and quad bikes

Yes and No

Having read the other reviews there is a lot to agree and a lot to disagree with! The food was very good with something for everyone (this coming from a fussy beggar). Everyone wants a tip for every little thing, but the the country is getting very expensive for locals to live in with no real rise in wages for a number of years. The hotel was kept clean with cleaning staff on until after the bars close. The Rose and Crown staff were good hosts who would set the TV for guests. The entertainment was ok but the one game of bingo (added after requests from previous guests) took over an hour in four languages! I agree that the beds are a bit hard but extra bedding is available on request. The beach is a short walk from the hotel but required the crossing of the main road, not something for the faint hearted at busy times. The pool area was very good and like any pool area will get crowded during the popular times. It was clean and well maintained. There was a good selection of eateries around the pool area with the terrace, Bistro and Rose and Crown. The toilets could be a bit whiffy and they should get them sorted. All things considered, we enjoyed our holiday!
