Don´t take your chances!
My boyfriend and I went on a trip through Canada on July/06. We have stayed in a total of more than 15 Bed&Breakfasts or hotels. And this one was, for sure, the worst of any kind.
We stayed there two times, before and after going to Montreal. In our first stay it was poor, but OK. We got a bedroom on the second floor, and there was air conditioning (these days were very hot) and a microwave oven. The sheets and towels weren´t the best, but, hey, for that price? Ok. We had problems with the key. The door wouldn´t open, even after 5 minutes trying. We asked for a solution, but until the day we left, three days after, nothing was done. They charge 5 CAD per day for the WI-FI internet (of course, you must have your own computer). The breakfast they claim to have is another story. The utensils and plates are disposable and the food is only croissants and muffins, not tasteful.
When we arrived for our second stay, at about 7pm, the attendant was just leaving and handed us our keys, for a front first floor bedroom. When we got to the room, we smelled cigarette smoke and went back to ask for a non-smoking bedroom (despite of the fact that they claim to be a smoke-free enviroment). The guy told us that it was a non-smoking bedroom and there were no other rooms available. We went back to the bedroom only to find out that there was no air conditioner and, considering the sign that told us to lock the front door for security reasons, we couldn´t sleep leaving the window open. The clerk came to us and offered a second floor room, just the same, but without that disgusting smell and with another problem: we would have to carry all of our luggage upstairs. No problem if they had normal doors and not that old and heavy ones with springs that shut ON you before you can get through them. It would be a nightmare to go upstairs with everything and we were late for a show, so we stuck with the first floor room and went out.
When we came back to sleep, the smell was really bad and it was very, very hot. Considering that we are both allergic to cigarrettes, it was impossible to sleep . We decided to leave and find another hotel. We left our keys in the same place the clerk uses to leave the keys for the late check-ins with a note explaining the situation and unauthorizing any debit in our credit cards, but we knew that the first night would, probably, be charged. We had a very nice stay a very good hotel near there.
The next month, we found out that not even they charged us for the first night, but the entire stay. We sent an e-mail asking them to solve the problem and got NO ANSWER, nothing at all. A month later, another e-mail and nothing again. It´s irrational to sue them, considering the amount involved and that we live in Brazil. All we can do is warn everyone that this is not a good place to stay. They don´t treat you well. All they want is your money, no satisfaction involved.
