Hotel Prins Hendrik, Amsterdam

We had a wonderful time at the gorgeous Barclay House. The hospitality from Patrik and his team made us feel right at home. When we left for a couple days to explore Vancouver island or Whistler, we'd be welcomed back with a personalised 'welcome back' card and 2 glasses of port or cherry. Every day there'd be fresh cookies on our bed. Patrik always made time for interesting conversations and was helpful in anyway he could. We've stayed in several rooms of the house (since we kept booking extra days) and were mesmerised by the beauty and different atmosphere of every room. The breakfast was an absolute delight with it's warm home baked buns, fresh juice, fruits and delicious breakfast meals. The service was elegant and friendly and we met several interesting people from different countries and cultures. We'd recommend this B&B anytime. There is no better location, you can walk every where and still reside in the calm area of the West End, which is between the park and Downtown and where the Barclay House is located on a beautiful lane with big old trees. I believe we may have stayed at the Barclay House at just about the same time as the person who wrote the 1 star review. My how perceptions differ! We have stayed at many B & B's and Barclay House is one of the best! The staff bent over backwards to make us feel welcome and we could not have been treated better. The breakfasts were a delight! We also dined on breakfast burritos, but they were cooked perfectly and served with a flair. While everything in Vancouver is expensive when compared with our hometown in central North Carolina, we found the Barclay House a relative bargain. Included with our room (bedroom and sitting room) and breakfast were: free parking, free Internet, and pastries and wine available throughout the day. In addition, the staff made reservations for us, arranged our ferry trip to Victoria, gave us tips on restaurants and tours and were available and gracious all day every day of our 6 day stay. Ignore the naysayer and listen to the rest of us--a stay at the Barclay House is one beautiful experience!

The Barclay House is in a good location, it is well appointed and quiet, Patrik and Rob are great hosts and great chefs. Although our stay was brief and part of a busy travel schedule, the stay at the Barclay House was just the relaxing stop we needed. Our room was large, the bed was comfortable, and having parking was great. Not only was breakfast hearty and tasty, the other guests were fascinating.

ALL I CAN SAY IS WHEN IN VANCOUVER STAY AT THE BARCLAY HOUSE!!!!!!!!!! OUTSTANDING IN EVERYWAY.. JUST OUTSTANDING! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Barclay House came highly recommended by our neighbours in New York. We have to say, Patrik, the owner, Rob the manager and staff could not be more present. They've truly gone out of their way to make it clear they care very much about our experience in Vancouver. The food is creative, diverse, and absolutely delicious. The house is beautiful and Patrik is the first to note that his staff seem to take as much pride in the place as he does. Beautifully placed antiques - beautiful chandeliers and panel lamps add more warmth to the atmosphere. Laughter is the order of the morning at breakfast. Modern conveniences such as the 'fatport' wireless laptop service, optional cell phone, and Egyption cotton on the most comfortable beds will have us coming back to stay in this, the perfect location, in Vancouver's West End. The porch is inviting. If you can get Patrik to play and sing a tune on his grand piano you're in for a treat. Really. This Bed and Breakfast is outstanding. The rooms are, well, suites. The attention to detail is charming. My wife loves the upscale line of bath products and skin cream. You'll love it.
