Hotel Catedral, Mexico City

YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE RESTAURANT WHICH IS AT THE ENTRANCE... THEY PRACTICALLY PUSH YOU IN. ONE WAITER IS AT THE DOOR. WE ATE FIRST HERE AND THE SERVICE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, NOT EVEN CLEAN ENOUGH. YOUNG PEOPLE AT THE TABLES MAKING LOVE, YOU DO NOT KNOW IF THEY ARE DRUNK OR ARE DRUGGED. THE AREA IS DANGEROUS TOO.

Hotel Catedral is a great hotel, especially its location, centro mexico city, its staff, its prices, its food and the condition of the hotel. I have stayed at the hotel about 5 times and have never been disappointed.

I was there September 11-18 2007. During the Independence weekend. No problems with online reservation. I ate at least one meal in the restaurant daily. All the meals were good and the waitstaff very good. I was surprised to find white tablecloth and such good staff at any budget minded hotel. The Hotel is kept clean and is nice hotel. If you stay at the back you will hear a disco until late. My remedy was to stay out until late have a nice meal and go to the 7th floor deck have a few drinks(bring your own or room service to the deck) and visit with anyone you find there. Sleeping will come easier. I am looking forward to Mexico City and Hotel Catedral.

Make sure to ask for a room w/ view of the cathedral. These rooms are larger, you get a great view of the cathedral from the backside, and if you open the window, you"ll hear the drums and music coming from the zocalo. It's a great neigborhood to see in Mexico City too. The street is lined with booksellers, and as you walk east from the hotel, whole streets are filled with merchants of different trades; a whole plaza of stationary engravers, etc. Not a good place for nightlife, though.

Great location if you want to see zocalo and surrounding areas. A step above budget hotel. Excellent service. Make sure you specify time of arrival because if you are not present by 2pm, you will lose reservation. Can get 10% off by paying with cash. Had best exchange rate at MEX$11 for US$1. Be aware if you have a room located at the lower floors or facing street it will be extremely noisy, had to use earplugs! Traffic can get intense, specially during weekend when streets become markets.

The Hotel Catedral was not fancy but it was clean and very comfortable. The fact that you could walk everywhere around the Zocalo area was great! Nice restaurant if you do not care to go out. I will go back because it a very good value. Jimmy Jones Texas

The Catedral is just two blocks north of the Z�calo, on Donceles, and not far from the Allende metro station on Line 2. Friendly service. Neat, clean and very reasonably priced.
