Booked this hotel for our stay in Manila for 3 days. The housekeeping took forever, and kept ignoring my calls. I never got anything I asked for. I asked for 2 things; an extra pillow and a dishwashing soap. Other services took forever. Housekeeping didnt care shit. It looks like they would only pay extra attention on you if you give them enough tips. We only liked the place coz it wasa suite and it was huge. Decided to book this hotel again for the next week coz we had to leave and come back in a week. We asked for a hotel transport for 3 people. Boy were they stupid! They asked how many people and based it off the transport on the ammount of people, not counting the bagages! They saw how much baggage we had when we left the hotel! Isnt it common sense to book us a a freakin van? To top it off, the transport had us wait in the airport for like almost an hour coz he was late and didnt even bother to call us to let us know! Then, when he couldnt fit our bagages in, we decided to take a taxi van and guess what the hotel did! THEY CHARGED US FOR A NO SERVICE TRANSPORT!! that is like the silliest and most rip off thing i have ever heard!!! DECIDED TO CANCEL RESERVATION AND GO TO A NEARBY HOTEL - Holiday Inn. Best place ever! Had the best hotel service and TRANSPORTATION! If you want a hotel worth your money, go to HOLIDAY INN GALLERIA.
I've used this hotel several times. usually, I check into a 1 bedroom suite, but I've also tried the 2 bedroom suite. The thing that I like about this hotel is that the suites are spacious compared to the same room types in nearby serviced apartments. However, it is quite noticeable that the rooms are not as nice as they used to be. The paint is fading, the curtains are a bit dirty and the beddings are not what they used to be. The bathroom is small, and so is the bathtub. I saw that others complained about cockroaches but honestly, I've never seen a cockroach in my stays. I've been there about 10 times. DSL connection is really expensive but you can have dial up for about P250 per connection. What that means is as long as you dont disconnect, you only pay that much for the entire duration of your stay. That means you can't use the phone though. The breakfast is really not good. I love hotel breakfasts and never miss the opportunity to try out buffets. But Astoria buffet breakfast isnt very appetizing. So I often just miss it altogether and eat in our room.
My whole family, consisting of 4 adults and 1 kid, stayed in a 2-BR suite for a week. When I reserved, I specifically requested for a non-smoker's room. Unfortunately, when we checked-in, we were given a room that really reeked with smoke. Since the room was prepaid, I couldn't do anything but request for ozonation (though the only thing they did was spray the room). We were resigned to endure the discomfort and probably the hazard posed by the odor when a marketing representative of Astoria rang up on the 4th night of our stay and asked how we find our stay. I told her about our problem and on the same night she facilitated our transfer into another 2-BR suite. That's what I call service.
The location is okay, plus we were able to use the shuttle service upon our request.
It would be nice if there is a rice cooker in the kitchen, though. Also, the visitors should be advised that the dish cloth and the sponge in the kitchen is not free.
Overall, however, we enjoyed our stay at Astoria and we will definitely stay there again.
I had stayed at Astoria Plaza twice in the past 2 years for about a week. I like the location (near the ADB and the World Bank) and the spacious rooms/apartments.
However, breakfast has been quite unimaginative over the past 2 years (instant powder orange juice, everyday the same fruit, choice of Asian breakfast not very diverse compared to other hotels in Manila). The breakfast room is veeery small and noisy, and forced me avoid it for the last days of my stay.
Cleanliness in the room was much to be desired (long black hairs on almost every floor inside the 1 bedroom appartment, every day), an alive cockroach found on the bed).
As other contributors mentioned ealier, a whopping USD 10 for internet access an hour (10x the usual outside), and 3- 4 times the outside rate for hotel transportation to common places.
I understood from the Hotel's website that the rate was USD 59/night - it ended up at USD 71 something.
My wife(Filippino) and I visited the Philippines to see our relatives. We decided to stay at the Astoria Suites in Pasig as the price was in our price range. They say you get what you pay for and we did. The room was big and roomy although the rug was tattered. The worst part of the stay was when my wife found cock roaches in the room. We brought that to the attention of the front desk and they said they would spray after we left. The most embarrasing point was when we checked out and the front desk sent a boy to inventory our room. He said he wanted to make sure nothing was stolen. Over all the stay was fair, the food was bland but the staff was very friendly and cordial. We will not use this hotel in the future.
We got a One Bedroom Suite there, and although the room looked nice, it was quite dirty. It's a shame that they don't keep up the place, because the rooms are quite elegant looking. All the curtains were dirty, the rooms showed a lot of signs of wear, and the dishes provided were also dirty. They charge $10 to access the internet per day, and we were charged $4 for a little can of juice that we thought was free (no sticker). We later found out that they charged us a rate of $10 per day more than the advertised room rate. Breakfast was okay, not too much choice though. The best thing about Astoria was the view, it's a pretty good location close to Megamall. However, I wouldn't ever go there again.
