The staff is not very friendly, one or two were rude, one maid came to my room and started cleaning; and never spoke,.There was a domestic issue that went on throughout the night into the next morning, and that person was still allowed to remain in the hotel. The bar and restaurant at the facility is closed; yet they still post it on the internet security is very poor, anyone can enter the hotel from open areas on the front and back. There was no service to assist with carrying our luggage to the room as most hotels accomodate.I will simply not recommend this hotel to anyone. This hotel is in a dumpy part of the city, and to add insults to injuries, our flight landed at 8:45 in St. Thomas; when we got to the hotel, we couldn't get in through the front door, the front desk operations were closed and we had a local gentlemen to take us around to the back of the hotel. This was really rediculus. It is simple not what it's cracked up to be.
We have been there a couple of times and everyone is so courteous, friendly, and will go out of their way to help you. The place is clean, central to St Thomas, and walking distance to the ships and some shopping. The staff, especially Andrea will do whatever you need for your trip to be the best. She set up many little excursions for us. We are thinking of going back again in Sept 09, love the slow time to enjoy the island in a local way. Best way to enjoy the island is to think and travel like a local.... See you soon!!
I loved the types of rooms they have with the kitchens (even though we did not use it). The bedroom was nice size. The location was central to all of St Thomas. We were able to rent a jeep and tourded everywhere we wanted to go. The staff was great and very accomodating for all that we needed.... We would go back in a heartbeat and reccomend it to others. The prices were definitely within reason for the rooms that they offer. I'm sure in the heat of the season, the price isn't all that bad compared to some of the real tourist traps that some of the hotels are....
There werent any dislikes of the hotel. The service was great, the room was great, and the food was great, the view was ok. The price was ok, but when tourist season hit, the prices get really sketchy. I am trying to come there myself and it is quite pricey because it is x-mas season. There needs to be local discounts.
Its all about the views. At the Sugar Bay Resort & Spa you will feel utterly at ease and comfortable.
