If its too good to be true,
By ,
the worst vacation ever, moved 3 times until gave up dealing with front desk, when manager stated " what did you expect for the price" well for $1,200.00 per person for a family of 5 i expected a tiolet that flushed, A/C that worked, a resturant that had good food, and someone that could tell me what my vip bracelet did. One night I was told that I was entitled to top shelf liquor ( Jack) anf the next day its $5.00 for a shot. your giving coupons to gamble, but when you try to redeem them, they don't honor them in the casino on site, beach and pool was nice

Pleasantly Disappointing
By ,
The place was beautiful. The staff was friendly but not service oriented. It took a whole day to get roll of toilet paper, which should've been in our room in the first place. The room was standard, nothing fancy, was fine for me, because I did not plan on spending much time in the room, only for sleeping. If you are a sticklar for good/great food and great service this is not the place for you. We went on a timeshare and everything was all inclusive. Unfortunately all-inclusive is not always good. Because we had to eat on thier schedule. If you wanted to eat on your own schedule you had to make reservations between 10am-3pm. If your flight gets in after 3pm don't expect to eat until 7pm when the buffet all you can eat opens. Speaking of Buffet, it was not good. Picture Old Country Buffet in a forgien country. I looked forward to breakfast, hey...you can't mess breakfast up, right? Anything with cheese smelled and tasted spoiled. I'm not sure if it was because it was un-pasturized or what. My diet was a variety fruit and breads most of the trip I did not pay over $300 to stay here, mind you it was apart of time share and I split with 2 other friends. Word to the Wise: You get what you pay for. Stayed October 2010, traveled with friends

DON'T GO ---A ONE RATING IS TOO HIGH!!!!
By ,
hated everything about this place- they limit you on towels-you are only allowed 1 towel per day per person- don't ask for toliet paper - only 1 roll per day is allowed- you have to beg for more- food is horrible at the buffet (all meals) and all restuarants-- rooms are dirty- bugs/some kind of ants everywhere in the rooms- i suggest you leave the lights on at all times- especially at night-- if it rains- 1st floor beware you will be flooded. service is horrible -everyone has attitude - and they are too busy talking to each other rather than helping the guests--- don't send anyone--unless you hate them. a one star rating is too high

Won't Go Back To This Resort
By ,
A group of friends decided to vacation this year in Punta Cana and through our travel agent and Apple Vacations, ended up at the Grand Paradise Bavaro Resort. Although some may suggest that many negative reviews are from those who work for other resorts trying to drum up business, I can honestly say that I am not one of them. I have never been out of the USA and this was my first "international" trip. When we first arrived, the representatives checking us in weren't the friendliest people in the world. It may be a cultural thing, but they definitely need to work on their customer service skills. The rooms weren't what I would have expected. I didn't like the open concept, I would have preferred a more traditional arrangement since this trip wasn't a couples trip. I must agree, the timing on when the rooms were cleaned differed everyday and they didn't clean the floors or change the bedding. That would have been nice since there is a lot of sand and dirt. The door on the water closet/toilet didn't have a door knob but had the other hardware and unfortunately I was stuck in there until we determined how to get me out. We called to get a replacement door knob and a maintenance person showed up and left, never to return. We had to call the next day to address the door knob issue. The shower didn't drain properly. All of the water went down hill and the edge of the shower was not high enough to prevent the water from flowing into the room. In fact the way the shower floor was slanted was not proper for drainage purposes. The food was not very good. The presentation was always interesting, but the taste was lacking. It would have been nice to enjoy more of the local cuisine, but I suppose they needed to appeal to a lot of different people and cultures. It was a pain to make reservations for the other restaurants. And when we made reservations for the restaurants they wanted some paper that was included in our envelopes upon check in. Who carries this stuff around. The staff in the restaurants and buffets were really nice and I have to say they had the best level of training needed to make people comfortable. It was a bit disappointing to see so many pregnant women working on their feet for hours on end, but I also understand that those are some of the sacrafices that are made to get decent jobs. The beach was wonderful. It wasn't crowded and the weather was great. This has to be the best part of the whole resort and the best part of my trip. The drinks seemed a bit watered down and using what tasted like the same type of juices. Wasn't sure what that was, but it seemed to be the same no matter what. Although I enjoyed visiting Punta Cana and will return, I have no desire to return to the Grand Paradise Bavaro. We were told they were under new management and if this is true, they have a lot of work to do. I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone, but highly recommend that people should visit the Domincan Republic.

Not a perfect place for stay?????
By ,
We book through the Travel Agent and we heard a lots of stories about the place and we didn't beleive it. After our first visit we will not recommond this place to anyone. The front desk staff is very non cooperative and unhelpful. The Guest Service lady nemed Ms. Laura Schulz is the most dead face lady I ever meat in the Hotel Industry. She does not know how to welcome/great a guest or offer to sitdown on the chair. We looks like a bagers in front of her. Please remember that the customer's pays your salary. The buffet restaurent is very good and all the staff is very nice and courteous and I was shocked that some of the staff is working 16hrs shift with one hour break on the minimum wage no additional OT or any compensation. Some of the waitress are 6 or 7 months pregnant and they were carring all the plates and dishes.

Punta Cana Nightmare
By ,
My husband and I thought we were taking our dream vacation to Punta Cana. What attracted us most was the 'guarantee of sun'. We left fifteen inches of snow for two out of seven days of rain, and three days of heavily overcast skies. You know it is overcast when you vacation from New England weather in January and don't need sunscreen at all when outside. I was hoping to get at least a little tan while there - that was a joke. I understand that weather changes, but don't advertise 'guaranteed sunny days' when that is not the case. As all of the other reviews stated, the food left much to be desired. Same old 'buffet food' every day. The rooms were not clean, especially the bathroom floor. There were pieces of long, black hair everywhere. The bell boy had the audacitiy to suggest it was from us. Guess what - my husband is bald and my hair is blonde. The ATM was 'down' all week and the resort staff couldn't have cared less. We were placed in the wrong room and had to wait four days be placed in the correct room, for which we had already paid extra for an oceanfront room. Most of the international guest were rude (cutting in at the buffet areas, rude, blatant comments about Americans, placing towels and belongings to 'save their spot' at the pools and beach, leaving many guests no place to sit) and the staff did nothing. Of course most of them did not speak English, so they probably didn't understand what was being said. For the price we paid, we will never again vacation in Punta Cana, and cannot recommend the Grand Paradise Bavaro to anyone. It is only a three-star resort on this website, Our AAA representative, who booked our vacation through Apple Vacations, claimed it was a four-star resort.

WE can't wait to go back!
By ,
I agree with Greg. I do not enjoy all these whiny people around who have no idea how to travel and have fun. Resort did not provide entertainment, are you kidding me!?! Also, do your homework and have an appointment with travel clinic and have a vaccination specificaly designed for you to be able to try all kinds of local food. Even my 12 year old knows when you go to the foreign country food and water is different, so your digestive system may need some adjustment period if you did not have vacine done. My whole family went there and we had zero problem with food, and i am known as "clean freak". So, yes, get real people. Do your homework, be nice and you will have a great vacation as we all did.

I smell B.S. from a lot of these \"reviews\"!!
By ,
First off, either many/MOST of you either work for other resorts and are trying to bash the GPB to gain customers, or many of you are shallow/fickle/obnoxious/arrogant/self loathing/self absorbed "people". Is this resort the Waldorf Astoria? Nope! The Ritz-Carlton? Not even close!! However, you're not paying Waldorf or Ritz-Carlton money neither!! As far as the supposed "theft", it's easy to point fingers. If you TRULY stayed at the hotel, well then you KNOW that the doors are on a pneumatic hinge system, and NOT a spring system which generally requires the user to pull the door shut. If you don't, well then the door has a tendency to stay ajar. Sooooo,....in short,....shame on you for inviting anyone/everyone to enter into your room!! It's easy to blame the staff, when ANYONE could've walked into your room. Also,...they have these REALLY COOL and NEAT inventions!! Maybe ya' heard of it? A SAFE. You put your valuables in it and no one can get to them. Only the bearer of the key!! Works miracles!! As far as people claiming to be gravely ill and knocking on deaths door from the food. Have your stomachs checked. Seriously!! I'll admit; food in general is NOT good. I'll even go so far as to say my wife and I both had a couple bouts of the upset bellies. However,...a couple swigs of Pepto and/or a few Tums and some bottled water,....like brand-new in a couple hours. As for the staff being rude or mean or snotty, I'd be willing to bet it was YOU who was rude, mean, and/or snotty FIRST!! You come to MY country thinking your *hit don't stink and the world owes you EVERYTHING. Yeah,...I'd be nasty right back to you!! We were there for 8 days and we didn't encounter ONE SINGLE mean/nasty/rude/etc. staff member. EVER!! That includes maids, bartenders, front desk, and EVERYONE!! Bottom line? I KNOW that if you TRULY stayed at the GPB you got a really inexpensive (comparatively speaking) vacation. You can't expect to pay common-man prices and stay at common-man resorts and be treated like Michael Jackson or Brad Pitt or Prince Charles. GET REAL PEOPLE!!! And if food is THAT big of a concern to some of you, do us ALL a favor and keep your asses at home and go to 5 star resturants instead of taking a vacation. I never met so many whiny/bitchy people who complain about FOOD on a VACATION!!! You take a vacation for sun, fun, relaxation, culture, experience. NOT to stuff your fat faces and bellies. I'm just so tired of reading all the negative *hit about the GPB from shallow/obnoxious people who pay SPIT for a vacation. I'd like to say you people amaze me, but sadly,....with the way most people are these days, you DON'T!!

Absolutely terrible.
By ,
I read all of the reviews about this place before we left, but took it all with a grain of salt - good and bad. When we got there, we put our luggage in the room and went to go in the pool. When my boyfriend and I got back to the room, my camera, which I left on the chair, was gone. We called security, they searched our room, and magically, 10 minutes later we saw the camera on the chair (we believe they put it back after possibly the maid had stolen it). Entertainment was nonexistent, and by the third day, my boyfriend was stuck in bed every day because his stomach hurt so bad. By the 6th day, mine started hurting. When we returned from the trip, I ended up in the hospital with e. Coli poisoning, as did my boyfriend. My issues with that have subsided, but he is still undergoing tests as he is still experiencing the symptoms -- THREE MONTHS LATER! If you're going to spend money, go to another resort. The people at the front desks (main lobby AND club) SUCK, they're so rude. This was my first experience with an all-inclusive, as I usually do cruises (which I LOVE!), and sadly, Grand Paradise has given AI's a bad rep in my eyes!
