We were rather surprised by the positive reviews on this resort as our experience was very disappointing. We realized the first day that we had made a big mistake, but then we couldn't get out.
You are told at the evening meal, what your assigned tour will be the next day and it was generally a single choice. The choices were arduous and tailored to the young and fit. If you had already done the event or didn't choose to do it, you would need to make your own arrangements by traveling to a nearby town.
While we were there (three days), the choices were: a pottery cave (moderately difficult uphill climb, slippery or sticky interior and a rope descent to explore part of the cave); a trip to Tikal (in Guatemala), a four-hour round-trip over rough Guatemalan roads (we'd already taken a trip from a nearby hotel in Tikal occupants who.) Caracol (a bone jarring ride on a jungle trail). These are all difficult trips for mature adults.
Meals were only served at a particular time, and food was generally not available at any other time. If you decided you wanted to sleep in you'd miss the 7 a.m. breakfast.
The rooms were air-conditioned but they were very inadequate. The cleaning staff turned off the air conditioning, so when you'd get back to your room, it would be very hot and not cool down until late in the evening.
The cleaning crew did not do a very thorough job. The cockroaches were the largest I have ever seen.
On the positive side, the cinnamon rolls were great, the mixed drinks were very good and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
We consider this resort to be only for the adventurous and fit and who like a structured arrangement.
