classical and unique.
The hotel is located in the heart of CBD on the corner of Flinders Street and opposite Victoria Square. The building oozes with charm and character, once the Old Treasury building it has now been totally revamped with a lovely colonial, contemporary, modern interior. Rundle Street Mall is approx five minutes walk away.
Our room 56 was a huge one-bedroom suite with 13ft ceilings, separate lounge, dining room with a good size kitchenette. The bathroom was large and up to date with all the facilities required. The only problem was being balcony freaks, this room did not have one, which we had booked. We requested to be moved, if possible, to a room with a balcony. The next day we changed to room 65, which was on the second floor, although not as spacious as previous room, it still was lovely with an extra large balcony looking over the city skyline and a small part of the hotel courtyard.
The building is low rise with only two levels; there is a gorgeous indoor lap pool, sauna and spa in the basement level. The hotel has a beautiful courtyard with a water fountain, which most of the rooms look over. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in this area, which is very tranquil and charming. There is also a small bar area, a very modern lobby lounge with an ATM machine supplied (very handy!)
Hotel services include broadband connection, CD Library, babysitting services, room service, laundry and dry cleaning, daily housekeeping, grocery supplies, mini bar, newspapers, safe, and tours/car hire can be organised through reception.
The apartment consists of a full kitchen with cutlery and crockery, TV, CD player, washing machine, dyer, hairdyer, safe, and ironing equipment. The free bus operates across the road in Victoria Square. For food items, just walk across the park to the Hilton Hotel and next door is the Central Markets, which are fabulous, you can buy everything here for your apartment.
The markets hold over 250 stalls, which are captivating and enticing, you have stalls just selling mushrooms, kangaroo meat, cheese, meat, fish and every other food item you can name. If not buying, then just meander over there for a look, it is well worth a visit. Wine and beer can also be brought here, so you do not need to go into town for anything or use your mini bar items.
We have stayed in numerous hotels in Adelaide, and this would have to be my preferred hotel for the CBD area, but if looking for a beach atmosphere, then you cannot go past Stamford Plaza at Glenelg. The tram stop to this seaside village operates from Victoria Square opposite the hotel. A taxi stand operates outside the Hilton Hotel.
Restaurants can be found across the road in Gouger Street or hop into a taxi and go to Hyde Park approx 5 minutes ride; there are some great restaurants located in this very up-market suburb.
The only negative thing is the GPO Clock, which rings every fifteen minutes, opposite the hotel.I wish some one would turn it off!
