Don't do it. Worse than Motel 6 if you asked me
I decided to stay in this hotel because I have not seen any bad review on this hotel. Expedia even rated it as a three stars hotel and the price was very simlar to Rooms on the beach and Sandcastle in this same area, so I did not think this hotel would be that bad. I believe this is the first and most honest review you will see in here.
When my husband and I first arrived in this hotel, the outside looked very old and I was hoping the inside would be different based on their pictures, but I was wrong. The room looked very rundown-
1. The paint in the wall and ceiling was peeling off; 2. The phone did not work for the first two days; 3. The mattress was not very comfortable; 4. The bathroom sink was not very stable; 5. I locked the bathroom door once and could not open the door because the lock was very rusty, my husband had to get someone to hummer the lock to get me out; 6. We could not get the hot water faucet working in the kitchen; 7. I found ants in the kitchen when I first got there and in the diner on my breakfast plate the day when I checked out; 8. the air conditioning unit was not cool enough in January; you can imagine how hot it can get in the summer.
I asked to switch to a different room after I had the ants and phone problems. They sent me to another room which was streaming hot, but at least the hot water faucet and phone were working. However, I asked for the deadbolt lock key later on and the front desk told me that the lock did not work from the outside. We then demended a refund (I paid my travel agent upfront for 6 nights and you really should not do it) and they replaced the phone and gave me a bug spray. If I did not pay $91 US per night for the room +$4 US safety deposit box per night in advance, I would have checked out of this hotel long time ago.
The beach was about 5 minutes walk and I could not see the beach from our room. The admission fee for the beach was $3.25 US per person. You need to pay $5 US if you wanted to rent a locker or a beach chair.
When I was leaving, the front desk staff charged me $16.38 US for the local phone calls (average $1US per call). I gave him $20US and he claimed that he did not have change. He then sent someone to the gift shop down the street to get change. When the person returned, he gave me $160 Jamaican $ (less than $2.50 US @1US to $66 Jamaican $ exchange rate) and said he only had that + $500 Jamacian. I took the $500 from him and gave him back $300 instead and called it even. For some reason, he told me I owed him $6.38US because he only had $10US right now. I had to explain to him 3 times that I gave him $20US. At the end, I told him that he sent someone out to get change for $10US; that was why he now only had $10US + $460 Jamaican ($16.97US in total and I actually gave him 50 cents more). I was not going to argue with him on the dollar that he tried to take from me before he claimed that I owed him $6.38 to begin with, but the bad experience at this hotel did not allow me to give this hotel more than what they deserved. I would have asked the guy for the 50 cents too if I did not have to catch the shuttle bus to the airport.
Most people staying there were for a night or two only. I saw a lot of people coming and going very often.
The security guard would take our names down when we left the property for security reason. And I think he was the only one doing a good job there.
