Ibiza, Rio de Janeiro

Very clean acomodations. Comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast buffet, a real feast. Knowledgeable and helpfull staff. Cannot beat the price. Only 3 blocks away on Atlantic Avenue the price was double. Hotel is close to everything. Only 5 minutes from Copacabana Beach. Restaurants and bakeries on every corner (literally). Very safe.Family of three (teenager included). Go hang gliding (tamdem flight) unforgetable experience. We hired a guide/driver Mr. Carlos Murillo. Ask for him at the front desk. Very honest and pleasant person. He drove us wherever we wanted to go. You tell him all the places you want to visit, and he will give you a set price, in our case, even drove us back to the airport.

I stayed at the Ibiza Copa in November 2006, and found this hotel to be very pleasant. The location is fantastic, only two short blocks to Copacabana Beach. The staff were all very friendly and the neighborhood seemed safe. My room was a nice size, clean, and had a small balcony. The street noise could get a bit loud at night, but I just turned on the A/C and had no problems getting to sleep. There is a pool on the roof, small, but nice for cooling off. The price of the room included a buffet breakfast which was really good. Nice selection of eggs, baked goods, and cereals. There were no surprises on my bill either. This hotel is a great buy for those who would like a nice place to stay but not shell out lots of money. I would definately stay there again and would recommend this place to friends.

The experience at Ibiza Copacabana was not a pleasant one for number of reasons. Let me began by telling you that the rooms, all rooms, are very small. There is absolutely nothing special about how the room was decorated. It was rather a "cold" looking room, it didn't feel homey or cozy if you will. Upon entering I thought that at least it was clean. To my disappointment I later discovered that there were tiny ants crawling everywhere (floors, furniture, bathroom). The superficial service was ok, however at the end of my stay I found out that the people at the hotel tried to stiff me for money left and right. I was overcharged for the cab, no wonder they always wanted to get the cab for me. I had no problem waving my hand to stop the taxi, but they always insisted to call one for me. I later discovered that they were overcharging me by not running the meter inside the cab but collecting a flat fee "per desination". When checking our I also found out that I supposedly made a 5 min call to Africa that cost 200 reais equivalent to about $100US!!!! I never called Africa. I don't even know anyone in Africa!!! Night before I went to Rio I stayed at Red Roof Inn and the difference in quality, comfort, atmosphere, cleanliness unbelievable. Red Roof Inn was like a castle compare to Ibiza. I will never pay that much money for a hotel like Ibiza. Next time this happens to me I will be out. I will never put myself thru anything like this again! Last day of my stay I was glad to go back to US.
