Don't go for the Jacuzzi Suites

We travelled with another couple and decided to get the bare minimum for our stay in Niagara Falls as we did not plan on spending much time in the room. The other couple stuck with that plan and their rate was $49.99. They did have a hot tub in their room but it was explained that one was broken. My partner and I stupidly decided to go for the hot tub deal without actually testing ours out. The hot tub did not work. We mentioned this to the female owner the next day and she suggested it was user error. I did verbally confirm with her it was simply a matter of pressing a button. She hastily said she would have her husband look at it. It was very unlikely that was done, as there were no service records, a note or any indication that he had been in our room. The following day during check out, we mentioned this to the owner and the user error comment came up again. We said we were quite certain it was not user error as we followed her instructions -- the next thing we know we are getting accused of breaking it and having an expensive repair bill charged to our VISA. It is obvious she has this discussion with people all the time and the hot tub deal is a scam. After staying that weekend and looking around - I suspect neither the electrical or plumbing can handle running hot tubs. I had to try a few different outlets to charge my digital camera battery and anyone we met complained of lack of water pressure in the showers. Instead of offering to reduce our bill to a regular room price $49.99 like our friends -- the best thing she could do for us was offer a 10% discount hand written on a business card for next time we return. After the threat of a possible lawsuit or unauthorized charges on our VISA we decided to do what everyone else does -- pay the extra $100.00 and run. Lesson learned: don't stay at the Ritz. After we returned and checked the internet for comments -- I would agree with most of what is posted -- especially the smell in the reception area and overall bad service if you are not a 19 year old American or a family. They don't seem to like couples. After reading this and other reviews on the net, if you are still stupid enough to go for the hot tub deal or stay at the Ritz Inn -- than you deserve to get ripped off.
