Bare-bones place to crash
Where to start...
I had booked two queen beds, and was initially given a room that had no window, and just a king bed. So after a quick visit to the office, I was given a room with two queen beds - the main in the office seemed awfully shady. On the bright side, the door to the new room locked, the room was fairly clean, and the bathroom area seemed recently-renovated. It's also a short 5-10 minute walk from either the Clifton Hill area or the Fallsview Casino area, which is great. And we had a mini-fridge.
However, entering a room in mid-December when the heat has been off and the bathroom window is stuck open can be a shocker. Then for all of the toilet to be frozen because of the temperature was a hassle. I'm amazed the pipes didn't freeze and explode in there. The heater had no knobs on it, so after plugging it in I had to remove the cover and twist the controls to turn it on. It was serviceable on night one (seeing as it had to thaw the room out), and did not work on night two.
The Admiral Inn was booked solid with a group of "kids", and coming from a pretty lenient 22 year-old, I can say they were excessively loud - both at night and at 9 am when they left. The rooms didn't do too great of a job of muffling the noise.
Housekeeping did not come after our first night. Nor did we have a clock in our room. The nonsmoking room also had a faint scent of a smoking room to it.
In all, the Admiral Inn is a serviceable cheap place to crash for a night or two when it's not too cold outside, and when you'll have the assistance of some alcohol to help you sleep through the noise. You definitely get what you pay for here. The lack of heat was a deal-breaker for me though - I will shell out a few more bucks a night next time to sleep in a warm room.
